I've just been diagnosed (through 2 sleep studies) that I have sleep apnea. My doc wrote a perscription for the machine. I wanted to look around and compare prices. I don't what brand to look at...or anything...

If you have a CPAP machine..do you like it? How much did it cost? Did your insurance cover any of it? Can you take if off your income tax as durable medical equipment?

Thanks for the help.

What can I do next?

sleep apnea is a medical condition. It should be covered under your medical insurance. You might call them to see if they have a list of devices that they cover ((or just any that they don't) associated expenses (deductibles or co-pays) or replacement tubings would be covered by a medical FSA (flexible savings account) if you have one. Medical expenses on your taxes are only deductible if they exceed a % of your income. check with your tax advisor on this figure. My husband has a CPAP machine and it has made a big difference in his ability to get a restful sleep.

I just bought one for my mom and she loves it. If you get a doctor's prescription for the machine your insurance should cover most of it. They are "sold" on a "rent to own" set up, so don't be afraid of that when they explain it to you. You "rent" it for about 12-16 months and then you own it. They last a long time. Depending on your insurance, less than a $150 investment out of your pocket for the works - mask and everything.

My husband uses a CPAP machine. It took a little getting used to straps around his head while he slept and not having full range to turn over any direction because of the hose but he really likes it now. He has a Resprionics ReMaster Pro M series. He really likes it. He says he did his sleep study with a slightly different kind of machine and mask and he prefers this one. We did not have to pay anything for his machine. He pays a co-pay for the follow-up visits he has every 6 months or so (I don't remember how often) but we paid nothing for the machine. His insurance has a special program for sleep issues and seeing the docs and all the machines. HTH

I have one and my insurance paid for all but about 300. I made monthly payments. I use it every night, the whole night and travel everywhere with it. I am no longer sleepy in the daytime and feel refreshed for the first time in years. I am also so quiet my husband doesn't know I am beside him, etc. LOL

My husband has it as well. He uses a ResMed machine. He has tried a few different mask to get use to a certain one. It did take some getting use to but now he cant sleep without it. There are some websites that you can goole that ghave awesome prices.
