My 7 year old daughter has always had sensitive skin (just like me - lucky girl). Lately she has been getting small bumps on her cheeks. The days have been sunny and we live at high alittude so sunscreen in a must for my fair skinned girls on a daily basis. In the past I have used California Baby and the Coppertone Babies sunsceen. I am worried that the zinc-based sunscreens are clogging her pores although I like them because they are more organic and last all day. Do you have any recommendations for a good organic sunscreen for sensitive childrens skin that won't clog pores? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I more recommend the approach of protective clothing, large brimmed hat, etc. There are so many different products out there - arm sleeves to wear with short sleeved shirts, pretty hats, wetsuits for swimming, etc.

seventh generation and badger balm have some pretty good ones, but even these have ingredients that may irritate sensitive skin. sunscreen is touted as always necessary, but it carries its own set of dangers. our skin is an organ, and should not be constantly slathered in products, even organic ones (and especially not chemicals.)
there's no way to avoid the need for it, of course, especially in your situation, but i WOULD work at using physical barriers whenever feasible. there are more good sunscreen garments coming on the market all the time.

Coppertone has some that are oil free and some that are for sensitive skin. One of my friends in college had terrible acne in high school (which was much better in college), and she always used Coppertone - I just can't remember which one.

Good luck!

One of my daughters would scream & cry every time I put sunscreen on her--even the "baby" ones. Even the most gentle ones stung her skin. She's really fair & needs to use it everyday here in Sun Diego. She uses Eucerin's SPF 30 for sensitive skin every day & when she's outside for more than 10 mins she'll put on a swipe of a baby sensitive "sun stick" on her nose, forehead & checks. She hates hats, unfortunately. Good Luck.

My DD is prone to excema and she has done well with http://www.albabotanica.com/sun/sun-protection.html products. We mostly use the kids or face ones. You may also consider washing her face thoroughly every evening. I use Cetaphil or the generic every night to wash off any bug spray, sunscreen, etc. Consider also using products specifically for the face, even if you use them on her whole body.
