Hello moms! I am 33 yars old and, sad to say, I don't take very good care of my skin. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share your skin care regiments, mainly for the face? Is there anything you can do to reduce pore size? I heard alpha hydroxy works. Do you use toners? I already have dry skin. I wash in the morning and moisturize with aveeno products, but my face still looks terrible. Any info or product recommendations would be great. I know I could talk to someone at a beauty store, but I don't want someone just trying to sell me something. Thanks!

I used to use Mary Kay, but it started to irritate my skin and the eye make up remover made my eyes blood shot all the time. I had to see my eye Dr. to get drops to calm the redness. He suggested I stop using all Mary Kay. I found that organic products do a good job. I discovered a store at Woodfield with all natural products and I swear by them. It's called Lush. I doesn't cost anymore than Mary Kay or any of the other cosmetics at mid range stores like Ulta. As a matter of fact, Lush's cosmetics are so gentle that you only need to use a little bit to get the job done, so it last longer. My pores were very big and once I started to use it everyday, I have seen a difference. I have even bought the Henna hair color and used it last week. WOW! I'll never go back to using chemicals to color my hair.
At lush, I use the "Ultra Bland" Cleanser, No Alcohol Facial toner, and a moisterizer.

http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/index.html?lang=en_US&...

The closest store to you would be Oakbrook. Take a trip there and talk to the girls. They know the products and they will help you find the right fit for your skin.
I'm 37 years old and people are surprised when I tell them how old I am.
I'll never go back to using other products again.

Jenni,

My mom and I suffer from large pores in the T-Zone. I've had facials at many a spa and the only thing that really seems to work is keeping your skin clean, as it's the dirt in the pores that makes them appear larger. The skin care line I've found that I absolutely love is Bio Elements. They have a terrific daily cleanser and exfoliator I use 3 times a week in the shower (you don't need to leave it on to harden). They have products formulated for skin types. I buy mine online at http://www.skin-one.com/bioelements.html.

Another great way to reduce pores is buy an inexpensive facial steamer (less than $20) and do that once a week for a few minutes (not too long or it will dry out the skin). Then, you will see the dirt extract from the pores, and use a soft facial brush to fully clean them out.

Make sure your skin is clean when you go to bed at night and let it breathe.

Hi Jenni,

I sell Mary Kay so I'm bias. 1st thing if you wash your face with soap, stop... soap is really drying. Mary Kay (and others I'm sure) have a cleanser & moisturizer for dry skin. A lot of women like toners because they make your skin feel clean and tight, but that can be drying so look for one that is made for dry skin. I personally don't use a toner.

Mary Kay doesn't sell alpha hydroxy because a lot of women get red irritated skin from it. Instead for our super exfoliate we use Microderm Abrasion. It's awesome. It removes the dead skin cells sitting at the surface of your skin so you moisturizer can really seep in and work.

If you are interested in a Mary Kay facial, please feel free to call or email me ###-###-####).

But the most important this is no soap and a good moisturizer.

HI Jenni. I would suggest going to a dermatlogist. They'll do a great deal to help with basic skin care, appearance-oriented care, like the pore-size issue, and anti-aging stuff (I don't know about you, but I'm starting to wrinkle - all that showed up after Baby # 2!). I go to a dermatologist for other issues, but they also treat my skin care all over, including my face.

Hi Jenni-

I'm 31 and haven't loved the way my skin looks for quite some time...I've been doing a series of microdermabrasion treatments with a wonderful skincare/nurse in Highland and see tons of improvement. I would highly recommend her as well as the procedure. I plan to do a chemical peel in the upcoming months as well to take care of uneven skin tones. I also have a wonderful mircroderm product that I would recommend. Let me know if you would like anymore info. It honestly has made my skin glow and makeup go on and look so much better!

Check out Paula's Choice Products. They are affordable and one of the only things that really work for me. They have products for all different skin types and they really know what they are doing and don't engage in false advertising or try to tell you the products can do things that they really can't. The most effective product they have is the BHA exfoiliator, in my opinion. I am using the Alpha hydroxy exfoliator right now cause I am pregnant and BHA isn't reccommended for use in pregnancy. But usually what I do is use the One step facial cleanser for oily/normal skin, then do the BHA exfoliator (the liquid one is my favorite) and then a moisturizer of some sort (not necessarily from this line as I haven't found a moisturizer from them that is quite right for my skin). For a moisturizer I am still trying out things but the Dove ones seem to work pretty well. I usually use a lighter one in the Summer/spring and a heavier one in the fall/winter as I have dry patches. You really need to do this in the morning and at night to see the best results but I usually just do it once a day and it does help...when I was doing it twice the results were just wonderful.

Anyhow, check it out at wwww.paulaschoice.com.

Dont't you love the beginning signs of aging...dry skin, large pores, etc. I never had a line on my face until I turned thirty. Anyhow, I like the Nivea line for anti aging. Their toner is very mild and soothing. I have dry skin too, so I understand about not adding insult to injury so to speak. I found it at Target, and it is very reasonable. I also like Maybeline's age rewind concealer and foundation...really brightens up the skin. Also, make sure you drink at leat 8 glasses of water a day. I'd stay away from anything with alpha hydroxy if you already have dry skin, it will probably really irritate it. Brown sugar and a little olive oil makes a great exholiater to use once a week. I have also heard that anything pumpkin or papaya is supposed to be really good for anti aging. Unfortunately I have not found anything yet that helps to shrink my large pores on my nose. Good luck, and if you find any skin secrets please pass them my way.

Jenni I have been fortunate enough to have good skin. I also use the Aveeno line of products. I wash and moisturize twice a day. Also look around for the prefect makeup; never go to sleep with makeup on. I find that the generic/cheaper makeup products really hurts your skin. Do your research and find out exactly what type of skin you have and what will work for you. Since I am 42 years old I use products made specifically for women over 40. One more thing; drink tons and tons of water. Water really helps to keep the skin nurished. Hope this helps.

HI Jenni. The skin care regimen I use for my face involves three steps that cleanse, exfoliate, tone, protect and moisturize my face. I use it morning and night. It takes about three minutes. I am involved in skin care and have had the opportunity to see lots of skin types and regimens. I will try to leave my bias out and just answer your question!

You really can't reduce your pore size but you can reduce the appearance of your pore size. Dead skin cells tend to make them look bigger. Try microdermabrasion (or other treatment that gently removes dead skin cells), either at home or in a salon.

Great skin is based on many things to include genetics and stress. But you can make the best of what you have by considering what you eat and how it effects your skin, drink lots of water, avoid caffeine and smoking, and a good skin care regimen that includes a daily sunscreen. Your skin may just not agree with Aveeno products. Consider trying a different brand. Remember, sometimes it can take a little bit for your skin to respond to a new routine. Try it at least two weeks. Also, try to get all products from the same manufacturer. This is when products work the best and you can be more sure that they have been tested to interact well together.

Hi there Jenni. I have dry skin too, and I think it's important to keep your skin as naturally moisturized as possible, so I only wash my face at night. I use Cetaphil cleanser at night, and it's wonderful and gentle. Then I put on a really good nighttime moisturizer and eye cream. I do use the Kinerase Under Eye Rescue in the AM too. Also use a good exfoliant at least once a week. I love Fresh Sugar Face Polish, and even though it's a bit more expensive, I think it's worth it. As long as you exfoliate and really get to the dirt in the pores, the size of them will seem much smaller. I get compliments on my skin all the time, so I hope this works for you, too!

Hi Jenni,

I use Nicole Miller brand skin care. Within the Nicole Miller brand are quite a few different products so you can customize your skin care regime. Personally, I use Nicole Miller's Skin Hydrating Facial Cleanser, Hydrating Toner, Skin Revitalizing Serum, (vitamin complex) and Daytime Delivery Lotion, (Moisturizer).

These products cannot be purchased at retail stores, they can only be purchased through Melaleuca, The Wellness Company. Melaleuca is a co-op shopping club that I belong to. I purchase all my household and personal items from Melaleuca at wholesale prices, (Soap, Shampoo, toothpaste, laundry detergent, cleaning products, supplements and meal replacements). Basically everything I used to have to run out to the store for. Now these items are delivered to my door, I save time and money and the products are better than anything I have ever used.

I would be happy to give you more information, please feel free to call me at ###-###-#### or email me directly at ____@____.com

Hi Jenni,

I would be more than happy to help you. I sell Jafra, we've been in business for over 50 years! We truly have the best skin care line on the market and I dare you to try and see for yourself. I have been using their products for 18 years, I am 31, and have been mistaken for a teenager more than once. My skin looks great, and I owe it all to Jafra.

The secret is Royal Jelly too..cannot live without it!

My regimin is this: wash face with a cleanser, follow with toner, eye cream, lotion (with SPF 15, very important!) Royal Jelly. We do have a few specialty care products, such as Elasticity, neck firming, skin brightner, all of which I use daily too. As we get older, our skin looses elasticiy, tends to sag, and isn't as bright as it once was.
Go to my webpage: www.myjafra.com/hjohnson2

Let me know if you would like a sample, or to host a facial party for you and your friends (plus get pver $200 in free stuff!)

If you use Jafra daily, your skin will start looking great immediatly. Some products take a bit longer, due to sun damage, and any damnge done to your face. Royal Jelly, Eye cream and any face wash will immediatly be noticeable! and you will be so happy that you will never go back to any other product.

What skin care regimen you use should depend on how much money you want to spend, how much time you want to spend, and what skin type you have. Don't spend a lot of money on cleanser. If your skin is dry a mild cleanser like purpose, basis, or dove will do fine. Try to stay away from fragrance and scrubby beads, they just increase irritation. If you don't want your pores to get bigger, use a sunscreen EVERY DAY, even in the winter, at least SPF 30. Neutrogena Dry Touch is a good one. Don't use toner unless you are extremely oily. If you are 33 where you should be investing your time and money is in a good night cream and a good eye cream. If you are trying to improve pore size a product with alpha hydroxy or one with retinol is not a bad idea, but if your skin is dry or sensitive you may only tolerate it a few times per week so you may need to buy one with and one without (keep in mind they will last you twice as long that way). If you have a little more time, money, and motivation to devote to the cause you might also add a Vitamin C serum to your regimen such as Cellex C or Obagi C serum. The best store for skin products with a knowledgeable staff and great selection is Skin1 at 680 N. Lakeshore. But if all of this sounds like more time and money than you want to spend just go to the CVS and buy a product called Vichy RetiC. It has sunscreen, retinol, and Vitamin C and only costs around $30.00. Keep in mind though that SOMETIMES more expensive products do have more active forms of the ingredients in them so sometimes you get what you pay for. That's only true to a point, though. Don't let anyone sell you a $300 jar of face cream unless you have a lot of disposable income to blow. Hope that helps. P.S. you probably look a lot better than you think you do.
