My son started with that at six years old. My doc said she was going to look out for early puberty, but that wasn't the case. She said it is ok for him to use deoderant and that works. I have read that the horomones in milk can cause it, and my son drank a lot of milk. Now I buy Tuscans horomone free milk.

It could be the food she is eating too. drink a lot of water.. and eat a lot of fruit. use a deodrant at night and in the a.m. you sweat at night too. take a shower in the a.m and in the evening.. make it fun for her.. use baby powder too. see an endrocronologist (spelling) who can see if they can help.. good luck

Try mixing a concotion of 2 parts baking soda to 1 part cornstarch. Mix it up in a small airtight container. Wash under her arms every morning and use a powder puff to apply the baking soda mixture under her arm pits. Repeat at night after her shower. Make sure her little underarms are well dried before you put it on. It acts as all naturatl deoderant without the heavy perfume smell. The baking soda absorbs the order, keeping her from smelling. The cornstarch makes it feel like a comfortable powder and keeps her dry.

Hi! Has your daughter ever put on deodorant? My friend's daughter put on deodorant a few times when she was about 7 or 8 (without her mother knowing) and it completely changed her body chemistry. From then on she had to continue using it so that she wouldn't be stinky. Hope this helps.

Hi N.,
Some kids are smellier than others. If this is something that's just beenhappening recently and not all of her life, I would ask the ped for a referral to an endocrinologist. Body odor can be one of the early signs of puberty, and your daughter is very young, so if she's displaying symptoms, it would be good to have her seen by a specialist. My daughter was 8 by the time she got to the BO stage and was using deodorant at 9 (not an antiperspirant but a more natural deodorant, and I also gave her wipes that she could use for underarms)
Good luck!

I would agree with taking her to a pediatric endocrinologist. I recently saw a show on discovery health channel about a girl who had bad odor her whole life no matter how often she showered and it turned out to be that she couldn't metabolize certain foods correctly. The solution was to avoid certain foods like eggs and others. You can probably search discovery health channel to find the information.

Here's a few ideas:

-undiagnosed food allergies
-improper levels of gut bacteria (if she's had antibiotics that a sure thing) to digest food
-eating an acidic diet (animal products, grains and sugar)
-not eating enough green foods which are natural deodorizers
-wearing polyester or other unnatural fibers

A healthy person who bathes regularly should not have any body odor.

I have a daughter that sweats a lot and stared having underarm stink at 3!!! I use a natural deodarant and it works great. Toms I think it is. It doesn't have aluminum and you can get in unsented but will keep the sell down
In the summer a wash up and bath is needed and I cut down on her meat intake.

Hi N., My 7 year old daughter had an underarm odor at the age of 6. I used shower to shower powder or corn starch powder and that seem to work well for us. Now at the age of 7 she has a little bit of peach fuzz under her underarms so i guess that must be signs of pre-adolescence, if there is such a word. (smile) Scarey isn't it. I hope you don't get offended to this but please don't say your princess "stunk". She might develop a low self esteem. Good Luck!

My son was five years old when he acquired armpit stink.

Drinking more water is helpful for many things but deodorant works best.

I was shocked and didn't want to believe this could even be possible but you can't hide from the smell.

I would recommend taking her to the doctor's if the deodorant doesn't work.

They grow too quickly but enjoy each moment.

Have her drink more water and you might want to start shopping for deodorant.

My daughter has had to use deoderant since she was about 6. She's 10 now, and still using deoderant everyday. She has had underarm hair for about a year now, but luckily no sign of her period yet. Just get your daughter some deoderant that smells nice, and remind her to use it everyday.

I was curious about this and did a little internet research....This was not a problem when my kids were young. It seems to be increasing...probably because we all have ingested hormones and antibiotics in our food for such a prolonged amount of time that it has become a genetic thing. More and more children are reaching puberty earlier and earlier.
Personally I would stop feeding my children meat injected with hormones and steroids and antibiotics and also milk. Did they possibly think that all these additives would not have an affect on our children and our own bodies.

Of course most of the sites just say....'Oh I shave my six year olds arm hair so she's not embarrassed and buy deodorant. Scary, scary

That is a unique issue. My daughter began having the same issue though a tad older. While it wasn't severe, it was certainly noticeable.

I resolved the issue by using a natural deodorant (one without the aluminum based antiperspirant); it seems to work well. I use "Kiss My Face" Lavender scented. The deodorant does not irritate her sensitive skin and doesn't prevent healthy sweating either. You may get this or another recommendation from your local health food store.

I hope this is helpful. BTW, I just looked at the dietary advice and I think this is all useful stuff. Diet was not an issue with my daughter. We don't eat much red meat and try to get free range or hormone free meat; she also is not a big milk drinker. And she is 10 now and no signs of body hair (thank goodness).
