Sit and Stand Strollers - Daly City,CA

Hello moms,

I have a 3-year old and another baby due next month. I am interested in buying a "sit and stand" type stroller. I currently use a BOB revolution for outdoor walks and a simple umbrella stroller for malls, but really, my son will mostly walk or sit in a shopping cart. I've looked at the Graco and Baby Trend sit and stand models. I really like the Joovy Caboose system and I think there's a new ultralight model (but it's the most expensive at around $240). I didn't think I would need a double stroller but many people tell me that my toddler will want to sit in one once the baby comes. I'm thinking I would stroll my son and just put my little baby in a carrier, but I know I can't always do that. On days with my husband, we could both push something since we kept our "snap and go" frame from our first son. I'm fairly petite and don't want another "beastly" stroller to lug and fold. Anyone have any experience/reviews of any of the aforementioned strollers? Since the boys will be 3 years apart, how long would I probably be using one? I'll probably look into buying a used one on craigslist if I can find one. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Meh. We have one (got it for a Disneyland trip) and I like the stand part, but don't like everything else. The basket is hard to get to (I can't put any diaper bag in it). My 15 mo/old is never comfortable in the seat. My 3.5 y/o loves the stand part, but other than that I'm not crazy about it. I love our other double (Kolcraft Contours) and use that all the time. I was just talking to my DH about selling the sit and stand since it sits unused in the garage.

We have a sit and stand by Baby trend, and it does the job fairly well. My son never wants to stand, but he sits on the little pad and likes that. The basket is fairly useless, as with all the others as well, but you can throw little things in there. The cup holders are nice, fitting big cups well. It folds easily and I have gotten it out and put it in the car while holding our now 16mo old. I mainly got this one because it had trays for both the front and back seat-- so if we were somewhere with no tables (the park, or fairs, etc) then both kids would have a clean place to sit and eat. Some of the other strollers don't come with trays for the back seat. I spent a little over a $100 for this one. It is rather large to fit in the trunk, but fits perfect in the back of our minivan. You might wait until your new baby is a little older to choose one.... see what your 3yo is doing/liking. You may just get away with using your single stroller and letting him walk......
Good luck!

I LOVE my sit'n'stand!!! It IS heavier but SOOOOOO worth it.
I have 3 kids so I sit my 18mo old on the seat, snap my baby in the front in his carseat, and have my 2.5 year old ride on the platform. It was a little long/hard to tur at first but I am used to it now. And before I got this I had a doubble and I had to reinforce the bucket on the bottom for my 12 mo old, and big sis sat in fron and the new baby rode in the back in his chair or in the bassinet...but it was long/heavy too and with my DD growing too big for the bucket idea.
You can use a sit'n'stand for a long time because it can handle the weight of older kids. I plan on using mine untill it "breaks."
CL is a good place to start...you can prob keep it under $100 that way.
Hope this helps. :)

My children are 3.5 years apart. I bought a sit and stand when my son was born and don't think I could have lived without it. My daughter was (and still is) small for her age, but we used that thing for years. We even used it on a Disneyland trip when my daughter was six.

I am in the exact same situation as you. I got a Baby Trend Sit and Stand Plus that converts the back step to a seat also. It has been great so far. The only complaints I have is that the carrier doesn't quite sit right on the front. It works best facing forward instead of facing me. It is also difficult to get to the basket so it is fairly worthless. Right now, I tend to use my regular Snap and Go and have my 3 year old walk until my little one can sit up on his own. I would go to Babies R us and play with them to see which one you like best, then try to find it on Craigslist.

I, too, started out with the BOB revolution and to this day, it's still my favorite stroller. It's too bad my oldest didn't get as much use out of it because once he learned to walk, he didn't like being strapped in. That's why I got the Joovy Caboose Ultralight when I was pregnant again (gifted by in-laws, otherwise I would've searched on craigslist myself). We test-tried it before #2 came, and my then 2.5-yr-old son didn't seem to mind standing in it - to this day, he only stands on it because he doesn't like to sit. My kids are 2 yrs and 2 months apart. With the baby in her car seat carrier, my older one loved being able to face the baby and coo at her while I strolled around the park.

Some things about the Joovy: I like that it has 3 recline positions and allows the child to sit upright, since the BOB seat tends to lean back. My #2 fits better in the Joovy than she does in the BOB because she can look out and see the world better. The Joovy basket is nice and deep, but you have to move the toddler seat in order to access it so it's not readily accessible. Another thing I don't like about the Joovy is that I can't wrap my diaper bag around the handle bars, but I'm sure that's not a great habit since you can tip over the stroller if the weight's not evenly distributed. Still, I like having my diaper bag readily accessible and wish I didn't have to have it on my shoulders while strolling about. For this reason, I still use the BOB from time to time, and my older one likes to strap his legs around the front axel when he gets tired, knowing full well to keep his legs away from the tire.

I like the Joovy for everything else, and use it for amusement park days, but I don't think it's necessary since I love my BOB and my son doesn't *need* to be strapped in. I don't really use the Joovy all that much because my #2 hasn't yet learned to walk and I ergo her everywhere, plus my older one knows when to stay close to me. But all this may change after my daughter starts walking. If I have a choice to pick out a double stroller for my kids, I still consider the Joovy Caboose Ultralight the best fit for me. Lightweight and easy maneuverability are my main criteria.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your search!
