Sit and Stand Stroller Experiences/suggestions? *ETA

My daughter has requested a sit/stand stroller for when the new baby comes. Personally, I don't think it is a great idea, but I will let her make the final decision. By the time baby gets here, they will have a 7 yr old, 5 yr old, and almost 4 yr old. I don't think any of those kiddos need "stroller time" and overall this will be a very bulky waste of money. That being said, maybe I'm completely wrong! So, tell me what you have, what you love about it, what you hate about it, brand that you liked, and would you do it again?

I will say that they go a lot of places that require tons of walking - zoos, parks, camping, swimming, etc, so maybe it will be more handy than I think. This is last baby as hubby is getting "fixed" when baby arrives :)

Thanks!

So What Happened?

ETA: They still have the old stroller, but I guess it has seen better days :) I just think that with the baby coming toward the end of Sept, then winter is right around the corner (still need a stroller of some kind, but they aren't going to be doing parks and zoos until Spring). By the time spring gets here the kids will be too old, in my opinion, to even think about getting in a stroller.

eta: why not get a wagon???

that's what I wanted when my youngest came alone. We chose NOT to do it and used the same stroller.

They do a LOT of stuff. In regards to camping? It will be useless, however, for zoos, parks, museums, etc.? It will be helpful for a 4 year old. However, that's NOT MY CALL.

this is the one I wanted all those years ago - my gosh - 16 years....damn...

it had the car seat attachment too. We NEVER bought it. So i can't tell you how it was.

with 4 boys, I can say I never had a stroller like that. My boys are just about 2 years apart in age.

I've used wagons when they are toddlers. this is what I had.

I loved it!! My older ones would "push" it and I had space for grocery bags!!

When out and about? The kids felt "bigger" and not like babies.

What happened to the stroller she had for the 3 yr old?
Did it wear out?
Our son was done with his stroller when his feet hit the floor - at about 2 years old.
For a year when we needed to go somewhere where there was a lot of walking - we took a wagon with us - and he loved it - it was big enough for him to nap in.
By 4 yrs old he was walking everywhere and if he got tired we'd sit awhile or gave him a piggy back ride.
People I've seen with the stand and ride strollers just don't use them very long.
A stroller for the new born is fine - but for unpaved areas something with large wheels (like a jogging stroller) goes over the terrain without jamming up all the time.
With all the car seats/booster seats, space for fitting a stroller into a truck/van might be a problem.
A lot of people will rent a stroller at a park or zoo rather than bring their own.

She should probably check the weight restrictions as an almost 4 year old may be too heavy and could cause the stroller to stress and break. None of my kids wanted to be in or on a stroller much past the age of three but it was still convenient for carrying stuff.
I guess if you're getting her what she wants and that's what she requested go for it. She'll learn soon enough whether or not it was worth it.

Tell her to go to a store and actually try one out. My daughter got one second hand and it was big and very heavy. They only used it a couple of times and sold it for what she paid for it.

Will the 4 and 5 yo fit on the stand part? Will they get along? Will the 7 yo be willing to walk when his siblings are riding?

My daughter had a sit and stand when her second one was born. She rarely used it. It was big, bulky and heavy. It was difficult to maneuver. If they had things in the trunk, it wouldn't fit. It was difficult to load because of it's size and weight. It didn't fit in some narrow hallways such as doctors' and lab offices. It was difficult to push in rough terrain such as the park. It was very difficult for this grandmother to use it.

My daughter bought a two piece stroller when her third was born. The carseat fit on a folding light weight frame. It was easy to maneuver and to see her other kids. She had better control. The frame was easier to stow. The 4 nd 5 yo could hold onto the handle. This worked for my daughter when she had 2 older kids who walked.

She had an oops.baby that is now 2. They didn't use a stroller. They carried baby in a front pack and the nearly 3 and the 5 yo walked. They also used an umbrella stroller. They had one that was bigger than an umbrella and much smaller than a regular stroller. It had a carrier under the seat, was sturdy, was easy to fold and carry with wheels on the floor. It folded side to side. I used that one often.

I suggest your daughter push a sit and stand around a store before buying one. The baby won't be big enough to use it for first couple of months anyway. She could try it out before baby is born.

I had the Graco Room For 2 that someone linked below and I found it very useful for about a year, maybe a year and a half. My son was almost 5 by the time my daughter was born (they are now 10 and 5 so this is going back a few years).

This particular one is much cheaper than some of the others (link below says 108, I think I got it on sale for less than 100), and I thought it was totally worth it for the price. Some of the more expensive ones let you fit the car seat in either seat, etc. but I didn’t need that. This one did fit the car seat in the front, although that did impact the sitting portion of the back. It wasn’t a big deal - the older one just had to lean forward a little if he was sitting, or he could stand.

I’m a stay at home Mom and was often out and about with both kids by myself so having a stroller that fit them both was great for containment. I also used to take a stroller fit class and used it for that. It was slightly harder to maneuver than a single stroller but not terrible. I was able to run with it,

My son was old enough that I didn’t need a regular double stroller and he certainly could walk a lot of the time but on a long day out and about, trips to amusement parks, zoos, etc. it was great that he could just hop on and ride, either sitting or standing. There were even times when his cousin was with us (she’s just a few months older than him) that they both stood on the back and rode at the same time (your daughter could probably have the middle 2 both ride if needed).

All that said... I still also used a single stroller on shorter trips or if I was out with the baby while my son was in school, etc. And as I stated above the I mostly used the Sit n Stand the first year when my son was 4/5. It was maybe used for a few big trips just after he was 6, but then I passed it on to a friend.
