Now, if nothing else he can play with it. Just get him use to it. I think it will make it easier later.

I would start now. I started the sippy cup with all of mine when they started eating. They get a cup of water at each meal time in a sippy cup.

now is fine. I'd recommend the Nuby ones that have the soft nipple-like tops to begin with.

my pediatrician suggested we start at 6 months. there are so many good ones on the market now that are labeled as "starter" cups, or 6 months and up, or 7 months and up, etc. i was just looking at them at publix yesterday for my 7 month old son! :)

He is ready. When my little ones were about 7-8 months old, I took the bottle away and started giving them sippy cups.

I used Gerber and Playtex. Someone previously recommended Nuby sippy cups, but I did not like them because the spout was hard to install and therefore leaked. I also heard that because Nuby spouts are soft like a bottle nipple, some kids still had a hard time weening from the Nuby.

Professionals also recommend weening little ones from a bottle about this age. If you wait until they are 1 year old or more, it will be harder for you to do.

Good luck.

Ashlee,
I think now would be a great time! I breastfed my daughter and only used a bottle for occasional formula and then juice/water. My ped told me not to worry with a bottle at about 6 months, to just go to the sippy cup. I think it made it easy for her to give up the bottle because she wasn't really attached to it. Your son is probably ready to handle a sippy cup. Even if you give him a bottle at bedtime, you can use the sippy cup instead. I hope this helps!

We introduced the sippy cup around five months but our daughter never took a bottle since she was breast fed. We really liked the born-free sippy cups. Sounds like your son is ready for the sippy cup.

Hello.....my son started with his sippy cup at 5 months. I worked in a daycare and noticed that he was snatching everyone elses cups so I took advantage of the moment. We used the little cups with the handle on both sides, I believe they were Gerber. We started with water and as he got older we went to a water and juice mix and so on. I tried putting the breast milk in it, but he wasn't going for that! So when he was 12 months I started putting his soy milk in the cup and he was happy (had no problems weaning that way!!)
Hope everything works out for you! God bless you and your family!

You are in a good position right now. My daughter was this way and we started her on the sippy cup as soon as possible. It made the transition from bottle to sippy cup so easy (now 4 years old). Now my 13 month old son did not want to hold his own bottle and is not thrilled with the idea of the sippy cup. It is going to be a battle. Get started on the sippy cup ASAP.

Good luck!!
