I just moved here and I would like to start some sort of single mom's group. We could meet once a month or something like that and try to build some friendships/support. Is anyone interested? I'm 29 and I have a 7 year old.
OK, so I think I'm going to make a yahoo group for the moms that have responded (single and married) then we can all kind of decide when and where we want to meet. Does that sound good?

Did you ever start this single mom's group?
I have got to start doing something like this for sanity sake. I am 31 and a single mom of a 8 yr old and 1 yr old. It is hard not being from this area and not having family around and being a single parent.
Let me know if you have something with this going on and how it works and where the meetings are and what they are like, etc.

J., I think your idea to start a group for single moms is a fantastic one - I think it's important to have groups for any/all moms *as well as groups* that are for more specific aspects of parenting (for example, groups for single moms, or one for moms dealing w/ infertility, moms wanting support w/ breastfeeding, etc.).
I belong to a local parenting group with a focus on intinctive/natural parenting, and it's a great resource for me. While it is open to all moms & dads, even within our group the single moms say how helpful it is to connect w/ other single moms. So I say go for it - your group will probably grow quickly and be wonderful! :)

I would be interested in a Single Mom's group. I am a recently single mom and the struggle is hard but I've never been happier. But not having family here in Cincinnati makes it hard and who couldn't use more friends... especially those who are in the same boat as you.

It sounds like a great idea, I also have a 7 year old, but I'm married too.=)
I would love a single mom's group! I also feel that there should be one group for just single parents, I'm not trying to sound rude to those who responded that want both single and not single mom's but there are a lot of things that would be good for just single mom's to be able to discuss with each other. There is always the options of 2 groups?! Let me know if you come up with something!
P.S. I just want to stress that I have nothing against 2 parent families...but I would just like to get to know and get advice from other single parents.
There were a couple of us that were working on starting a Mom's group of some sort. We started working on it in Dec. but decided to prolong it until after the holidays. I would definitly still be interested.
Would the meet up be just the Moms or playdates for the kids also.
That sounds like a great Idea. I also moved here about seven months ago and would love to join a group like that. One question though..... Does it have to be "single" moms. ;)
