Help!!!!!!!!!!
Someone bought my sons silly putty for Easter, which I thought was a great alternative to choclate at the time. I have found this morning that one of my boys has left a lump of silly putty on my office carpet and it seems impossible to remove. I have got the worst of the lump off but there is a lot of remnant left. Has anyone out there had any experience with this problem?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The advice about Purell worked great, it took the actual putty off the carpet really easily but the putty has left a greenish stain, it looks way better though. Thanks for all the advice from you wonderful mamas.

WD40 will take it out! The smell may linger a day or so but does go away. WD40 also works on crayon in carpet too.

Silly-Putty breaks down with rubbing alcohol. I didn't have access to it once so I rubbed Purell on it and scraped it with a spoon. It worked great- although it was on a sweater and not carpeting. I think it would work just the same though.

You need to freeze it with Ice and see if it crust off it will be a long process. Use a fork and butter knife. If the ice doesn't work you could try melting with an iron, putting a towel down to have it transfer to it. another is to use peanut butter or oil but you don't want to ruin the carpet. Good luck I haven't had the experience yet and hope I never do.

Dealer's use Break Cleaner on carpet in the car when mechanic's get anything on it. That's what I would try, I don't know what color your carpet is, but mabie try in a closet first, safe for most color's, I used this on a purple London Fog coat, all the paint stains came out, but not the color of the coat, it was like new again. Best of luck!

I have heard that if you freeze it is easier to get out. Put ice cubes on the silly putty and when it freezes it should chip off. It's worth a try.

Try putting some ice in a Ziploc and freezing the spot like you would with bubble gum. You might also Google some other tips for removing gum, which would be very similar. Good luck to you!

Had a similar problem a couple years ago. Found that having the carpet professionally cleaned got it out.

M.,

I actually had the exact problem you are describing. I used ice to freeze the silly putty and take out as much as possible, then used Goo-be-Gone to break down the sticky bonds and remove the rest. The carpet needed several treatments of soapy water and then clean water to remove the Goo-Be-Gone, but once I was done the silly putty was gone.

Good luck!

THis may sound kind of odd, but look on the compnay's website that makes the putty. I have had to do that for other things that my kids have used and ruined clothes, etc., and it is a frequentlyasked question. If that doesn't work, try googling the question. Good luck!

Oh M., My son was given some glow in the dark silly putty for Christmas. One morning I found that he had taken it with him at nap time, in MY water bed. It melted all over everything because of the heat of the water. It never came out!! But my bed glowed after that, I had a built in night light!! LOL Maybe you can take the patch of carpet out and put in a scrape piece, this works well with berber. Good luck.

I have heard of the freezing thing, but would Goo Gone work? May be worth a try if the ice doesn't work.
