Hello! If any of you moms are still up I would appreciate some help! My daughter who is 11 months is acting ill, has really red cheeks (looks chapped, but has not been outside or anywhere to get chapped) is very irritable and slight fever. Any idea what this sounds like? The last time she was sick in August she had a seizure that lasted for 20 minutes, had to call 911, spent a week at Children's in Dallas and would like to prevent any repeat episode....already gave tylenol, she seems to still have an appetite...I am pregnant and don't want to get anything either...

Hello Ladies! Took her to the Dr yesterday and she either has Fifths or Roseola...same symptoms....she now has rash all over her body! I am going to my ob tomorrow...Thank you all for the advice!
She may be teething. Both of my sons would have a slight fever, rosy cheeks (sometimes chapped) and irritable when they are/were teething. Just a thought!!
Sounds like fifth disease to me. take her to the dr. anyways and make sure. It is contagious, and adults can get it so be careful.
With you being pregnant I would not take any chances, there are many childhood viruses and diseases that can cause birth defects if you were to get them. "Slapped" or red cheeks, fever could be 5th diesase. so you want to take her or call the peditrician especially if she has had sesures before you would want to call the dr. to ask them what to do. 5ths disease has a LONG incubation period and can be harmful to you or baby if you get it while you are pregnant. I would contact my peditrician to make sure your daughter does not have something you should be worried about.

when My son was teething his cheeks would get that way - he would have a little fever,. maybe that is what wrong - just an idea I just know that is what my son does when he is getting his teeth in -Lori
She could also be teething. If she has her hands in her mouth alot and gets saliva on her cheeks, it could chap her face. Some kids run a fever while teething and it definitely makes them irritable. We just went through upper molars. I'm dreading the lowers. Hope this helps.
What did your OB say today?
IT truly soundslike your little one is teething - are you giving her anything for that? Try Hylands Teething Tablets... they worked wonders for my daughter

Fifth's Disease has the red slapped appearance, has she been around other kids? It is a very common childhood thing. It isn't bad for her and by the time you see the reactions, she is almost over it. However, it can be dangerous in pregnancy. If she has it, she will generally get a red patchy rash on her arms and legs and trunk as well.
With the weather we have all been having, it could just be a common cold too. My cheeks tend to get red with everything I do.
Since you are pregnant, I would call my ob/gyn just to rule out Fifth's Disease. If there is any chance you could have been exposed to it, you need to let your ob know.
Not trying to scare you... if she isn't around a lot of kids, most likely she may just be getting a cold with the weather change...

Red checks sound like fifth's disease (a viral illness). Although, my face gets flushed from a high fever so it could be something else. Hope everything turns out ok.
Did you check into fifths disease ( not a disease just a virus) - that is what it sounds like and can be harmful to your unborn baby in first timester. Call your OB - there is an anti-body blood test that can tell if you have had it and are protected from it. Most people have had it while they were school aged. Adults only experience cold like symptoms.
My grandson used to get seizures when he got high fevers too. I think he outgrew them. G. W
My daughter had 5th diease when I was pregnant. I called my OB and he said I should be fine, there is only complications during the first trimester. Your OB will probably say wait it out and see if you get the rash. Most people have been exposed and therefore dont get the rash. How long has your daughter had the rash? If it has been more than a week, you are probably OK. The incubation is usually 7-10 days so if it has been that long and you dont have the rash you should be OK. I would still call your OB and check with them. Also if you daughter has the rash, she is no longer contagious. 5th diease is only contagious when you dont show symptoms (the rash). Dont look up a bunch of info on the web, it will only freak you out and give you unneccesary things to worry about (trust me, that's what I did). Hope this helps.
I think you need to get your husband to come take her to the doctor because it sounds like fifth's disease and if that is what it is, you can't be around her pregnant.
I hope that it's just a bad cold though! But I would definately take her to the doctor and call your doctor.
Sounds like fifth disease which is not really that dangerous to her...but it is an issue since you are pregnant.
I encourage you to take her to the pediatrician.
