I just found out on thanksgiving that I am pregnant and here it is only 3 1/2 weeks later and i am already showing. I know i am not retaining water. At least i am pretty sure. My question mostly this, do you show ealier with twins? twins run on both sides of our families. Or could it be other issues? I haven't changed my diet too much also

What can I do next?

If you were on the skinny side before you got pregnant, it is very possible to show early. I was showing real early with both of my kids... so early that people I worked with told me that it was impossible that I was showing already and they tried to convince me that I was just retaining water. I don't know about the twin thing though. I guess it's possible, but you won't know until you hear the baby's (or babies') heartbeat(s) for the first time.

Congratulations and good luck.

Two years ago, the day before Thanksgiving, I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter. By Christmas I looked 5 months preganant. I was convinved I was hainvg twins. I don't know why I looked it because I wasn't gaining any weight, I was losing weight and a ton of it. After a few months I "grew" into my belly, that is it say my belly didn't get any bigger and everntually matched up to what it was supposed to look like, and when I had the baby, the Dr said I was measuring at 38 weeks instead of 41. Oh yeah, I didn't have twins, just 1 beautiful litte girl named Abbe.

I am assuming this is your 1st pregnancy... if not, then that could be one reason why you would start to show earlier. It depends on a lot of things? How far along did the dr say you were when you found out on Thanksgiving? If he said 4-7 weeks, then you would be 8-11 weeks now and that is fine to start showing. It also depends on your build. If you are on the thinner side, you tend to show earlier. As for the twin idea ... that wouldn't make a difference in the bigging. Best of luck to you!

There are a few different reasons why you could be showing early. I'm 8 months into my first pregnancy and I thought I looked noticably pregnant very early on too (plus I was gaining a lot of weight) but to my surprise, I'm not having twins. Skinny and/or shorter women tend to show sooner. Also women who have gone through a pregnancy before will show sooner. It could be fluid retention or it could be multiples but I think the most common cause for showing early is actually bloating. Many women will bloat throughout the entire first trimester. If you're concerned about anything, I would call your Dr and mention that you could possibly have a multiple pregnancy. He/she may have you get an ultrasound to see just how many babies are in there. Just remember that every woman and every pregnancy is different. I hope everything works out for you! Congratulations and good luck.

It all depends on the type of body you have on when you will show with your pregnancy. With my daughter i didn't show until i was 7 months pregnant. With my son i was showing within a week of knowing I was pregnant. I think that it is a beatifull thing to show off so don't worry about it you should feel godd and be happy about it.

Could be twins. But more likely it's just your body! If you have a larger uterus, a tilted uterus, or any other of many things you'll show "early". And all of this even more so if you're already thinner!
With my first people could tell I was pregnant by my 7-8th week!!! And with my second it was even sooner!!

The first thing I thought of when I read your post was it very well could be a multiple pregnancy. I have a set of twins. They aren't my first children, though. My twin pregnancy was my fifth and I have a little baby gut left over from the previous one. So it was hard for me to tell when exactly I first started to show. What I do know is...I got much bigger much faster than my previous singleton pregnancies. I also experienced a double dose of all the pregnancy symptoms. Where I was tired before with one...I was exhausted carrying two. My appetite seem to be ravenous in the beginning too. If you haven't seen your Dr. or Midwife yet, ask them about it. They usually do a real through exam your first visit which includes asking about multiples in your family line. Good luck with your pregnancy! Congratulations!

if it is not your first child you may show sooner than you did with your first because your body has already stretched that way if it is your first than it is a strong possibility that i could be twins the best thing to do is ask your doctor they would know best

Not only did I show early, I measured big with all three of my children. With my first, my OB was convinced it was twins but it wasn't.

Twins are possible certainly, but I just tend to show early myself. We have never been able to wait long before telling because I always pop out just about when I take the test. I also gain like 10 pounds before my 8 week visit usually. But then I either lose or stay the same for a bunch of visits so it all evens out. I think part of the showing thing is multiples and part is just your body. Only your doctor can say for sure. They measure the actual size of your uterus to get and idea which may or may not be what is causing you to show early. I didn't really retain water either - belly just popped early and for all 3 pregnancies I had people question if I was having twins in the first few months.... all three have been singles.

It is very possible to be showing early. When I was pregnant with my first, I was in maternity clothes right away. We had intro uterine insemination to concieve her. So all the meds I was on made me very bloated and uncomfortable. But with my second child, we concieved naturally on our own and I did not start showing until about 20 weeks. I always seemed smaller with her and she ended up coming 10 days early and was bigger than my first daughter.

You could also be showing early if you are carring twins. It is very normal. Have you had a sonogram to rule out twins? Check with your OBGYN or Mid wife to have that done.\

Congratulations and good luck!

Hi C.,

My name is L. and i have four wounderful children. I had never had twins but one of my pregnancies i had shown really early. But since twins run in your family you should contact your doctor and tell him your concerns and he could order a ultrasound because if it is twins they do usually watch your preganancy closure. Good luck. I wouldn't mind you keeping in touch in letting us know if it is or is not twins.

Hi C.,

My cousin, at the moment, is also pregnant with twins. She is close to five months pregnant now. She started showing in like her 2-3 month I believe. But, I'm pretty sure that for everyone it's mostly different. When I was pregnant I didn't start to show until my 5-6 month but I am a chubby person so I just figured that was why. But my cousin is a thin girl plus she has twins so..I hope that helps a little. It could also be that maybe you are eating a little more since you know you are pregnant and have gained weight. Good luck with everything!

With my first pregancy I showed but it was everywhere else not my stomach. I still had a pudge leftover from not exercising after leaving the military and drinking beer (honestly).I am really petite and slim so any weight gain shows up on me. I didn't gain a stomach until I was six months and even then people assumed I was four months preg.

Now with this pregnancy, I showed from the beginning. It was also around the holidays, so that may be something. I was only two months and people thought I was about four or five. Don't worry pregnancy rarely is what we expect it to be.

I started "showing" very early. My ob was actually suprised by how big i was when i went in but said that at such an early stage in the pregnancy, what you are seeing isn't baby or uterus, but just a combination of your organs being pushed up and some bloating. I definitely looked like i was 5mo pregnant by the time i was 10wks along. I mean it could be twins, you could just carry in the front (like i did which caused all the stuff i just wrote) or you could be farther along than you thought (sometimes implantation bleeding mimics a period). best bet is to just make an appointment with your obgyn, have an ultrasound and get some answers to your questions :) have a good pregnancy
