Shower Remodel Ideas

We are remodeling our bathroom--shower with dual shower heads, maybe body jets or a "steam shower" (all enclosed), with a jacuzzi tub next to it. Any suggestions or ideas for those who've had these items? I am mostly curious about the body jets placement or the use of a steam shower as a regular shower. The shower will have a door--a must b/c the master bathroom doesn't have a separate door from bedroom. What do you like/dislike about your shower/jacuzzi tub? I'd love to hear suggestions from you mommies.

What can I do next?

Go to DIY network and look at their busters series. Without knowing the layout I couldn't help you but they have a lot of creative bathroom remodels.

When I get bored and need a new project we are doing our master in European. Pretty much a bathroom you can hose down but more important it makes a smaller space look larger by making each feature seam with the next. An example is the bath and shower are removed, the area under the shower gets an invisible drain system then the skirt for the corner tub is created. Tiles are run from the floor to ceiling making the two fixtures one. There is actually no shower door needed since everything will drain to the shower but we were planning on getting a custom door that falls to the floor in front and a half piece between the shower and the tub. We only have a 10 by 12 area for the bath and shower so this opens that up a lot.

a remodel! What fun! Make sure you know how far the shower body jets shoot out water or better yet, make sure the shower area is really big. Some of them are so strong it'll hit the wall across the way and the water will shoot back onto you on the other side and this is incredibly annoying, esp if you are using soap or shaving your legs. My mid level jets are small but the pressure is STRONG. Also, I wish I had the stream crisscross instead of point directly towards one another. My jets have about a half inch rotation but that's about it.

I really don't like my body jets - I have 4 other than my showerhead (which is rectangle and I LOVE that feature). The controls are actually on this dark brushed metal bar(which to me looks like rusted century old copper) that runs up and down and has 2 swing switches - one to control the shower and one to control the 4 jets and I hate it. I wish the controls were on directly on the wall because the bar with the 2 swing switches are a PITA to maintain.

If I had to do it all over again, I would either do away with the jets all together, or if I really wanted them, I'd have a system where I can have the option to control the water pressure for each jet (about $1000 per jet I'm sure lol).

I like my jacuzzi tub. It has 2 seating areas (3 if you count the bottom) and its slim enough on one side where I can prop one of those tub buddies to hold a book, candle and glass of something-something, and wide enough on the other for a small child to splash around in. Speaking of which, if I fill it up to where the top jets are, its too deep for my 6 yr old son to sit completely down in, so you might want to keep that in mind if you want your kids to try it out. The only thing you really need for a jacuzzi tub is to make sure there is enough room for 2 (wink wink)!

Inclusion of a steam shower can really cause problems with your paint and drywall. It is really imperative that you provide ventilation as well as very powerful exhaust fans, which can cost around $200 each. I got a huge jacuzzi tub thinking that it would accommodate my 6'4" hubby more comfortably. But it takes so much hot water to fill that we don't use it as much as we might if it was smaller. So my advice would be, don't go bigger than what you really need.

I highly recommend an outdoor hot tub. I never use my jacuzzi tub in my master bath room but we do use our outdoor hot tub.
The shower sounds great but I have no suggestions since my shower is truly builder grade complete with white 4" square tiles:).
