Should I Cancel Flu Shot?? H1N1

I have read a lot about flu shots leaving children autistic or with various other disorders. Should I still proceed with the H1N1 vaccination? Is it proven to be safe?? It seems like the government is rushing the mass production and we have no long term data to see if it is really safe. PLEASE, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!
I have 2 healthy and strong kids, 9yo and 16 yo

Hi A.,
I did it for both of my children and one got diarrhea. I think they did develop a little cold, but it's better to be safe than sorry. It's totally up to you.

Happy Holidays!

We just got the H1N1 for our son. He is in daycare and anything I can do to protect him I will. I feel the risks of him not getting it far out weigh the risks of getting the vac. The vac is the same as the regular flu shot. My girlfriend had her daughter vaccinated and has had no side effects not even a fever. Talk it over with you doctors and see what they say. Good luck

I, for one, prefer the natural route to the prevention of the flu, especially the H1N1 flu. I absolutely refuse to have this shot administered to my 6 year old daughter. You are right. There is no long term data on this, and even short term data is not adequate. In addition, there are high levels of Mercury in the vaccine, more so than in the regular flu shot, and there is also a chemical included that is found in high levels in children with autism! I make sure that my daughter exercises every day, eats well with lots of fruits and vegs, and I give her a daily dose of Vit D3. Vit D3 is a natural immunity booster and is found in low levels in people that are suffering from the flu.

I should add that the first and last time my daughter got the flu was when she was 4 yrs old....soon AFTER she got her flu shot!!!! (This was the last time she got a flu shot.) She is now 6 and hasn't missed a day of school since then.

We always get the regular flu shot--though my husband still has not and he gets hit the hardest. We have not and I do not plan to get the H1N1. I agree that it is just pushed too quickly. I need some kind of history before choosing that. I know there are people that would say I am crazy (have been told that) but taking regular precautions is what we do. However, my children are not involved in activities with a lot of other kids, my little one does not go to daycare and there has been 1 reporting in the school district my kids are in. I would probably consider if these were opposite. The school sent home a form for me to sign authorizing the shots. I would not send it in since I am just not comfortable. You need to decide yourself. There are 2 sides to everything in opinion and you have to decide if you do not get the shot, will you be comfortable with that decision or will you freak each time you come into contact with someone that has been exposed.
BTW, I make sure my kids are vaccinated fully though each time a new one comes up I consider everything about it. I try to do a different schedule for shots because I don't think it is fair for my child to get 4 or 5 shots at one time due to the stress of it, not due to the vaccine arguments. A friend felt the same about the shot but got it because she was so afraid of going out and was isolating herself.

Our family didn't get either shots. For the normal flu or H1N1.
We are family of 3, My husband, me and our 2yr old son.
I agree there isn't enough research in the shot & 9 times out of 10 you get it anyway when exposed. We definitely a lot of the time are just putting uneccessary medicine in our bodies & our babies bodies.

Good Luck with your Decision. :)

Ultimately it is your decision, however many people have been getting the flu shot for many years without complications. Each year the 'recipe' for the flu shot (and also the H1N1 shot) is the same except for the dead or weakened strands of the particular virus.

I am pregnant, so getting the H1N1 and flu shot was a no-brainer. My 2 year old son is in daycare and it doesn't matter how many vitamins, probiotics he gets and hand-washing he does, he is still going to come into contact with germy kids, so he got it too. We are two-weeks post-vax and have had ZERO side effects. To me, the overall risks of the vax are significantly and tremendously smaller than the potential risks of getting H1N1, which if allowed to run rampant and unchecked, can wipe out the immune system and let other issues such as pneumonia put a young body or a pregnant women in jeopardy.

H1N1 is slightly different from the seasonal flu mostly because it has been targeting/affecting young children and pregnant women much in the same way that seasonal flu targets/affects the elderly and immune-compromised.

Ultimately you have to make the decision that is best for you and your family. You'll find credible and falsified arguments for both sides all over the internet - it might be best to check with your family physician and your child's pediatrician.

The H1N1 vaccine is made the same way the regular flu vaccine is made, so I am completely mystified by the wildly inaccurate information being disseminated about this particular vaccine. Both of my boys (28 months) got the vaccine and had no problems. My nieces and nephews have all had the vaccine and had no problems. The adults in the family are having a much harder time obtaining the vaccine, but we all will as soon as it's available. My BIL got H1N1 and I have never seen someone so sick in my life. It was extremely worrisome, and he didn't even have any underlying health conditions.

Autism was blamed on mercury in vaccines, and few vaccines have mercury anymore, and those that do have very small amounts. In addition, there is conflicting evidence whether mercury, or vaccines, are related to autism at all. I don't know whether the H1N1 vaccine has any mercury, but you can ask your doc or ask for the drug insert. I think the jury is still out on whether there are any serious side affects of the vaccination. It's too new a vaccine and there's not enough data. For the record, we do not do the flu vaccine (but younger child is allergic to it) and we've not decided about the H1N1 vaccine yet.

I can't understand the logic of people saying "the H shot is made the same way the seasonal flu shots are made." So what! People are being injected with mercury. Yes, both have it in them. The H shot is a live virus, definitely different than than the seasonal, but mostly, it's not safe. There is a large risk to anything you inject that's not natural. Just because your child is "okay" after the shot, does not account for auto-immune disorders that begin as time goes by, neurological damage that shows up in learning issues, attention, etc...and overall, it's not "safe" Our govt needs people to get it for "herd" immunity...because most people drink soft drinks, non-organic foods, do not take their daily intake of healthful foods and overall have an acidic terrain. These people catch disease and spread it to others. Just so you know, there is a lot of info out there for you to read on your own. Most people buy into the "fear mongering" Just do it and you'll be safe! Whatever.
