Should I Buy Another Pregnancy Test or Just Wait?

I have never in my life missed a period or had a late period except for when I became pregnant with my daughter(3yrs old). Well, this month, no period! My husband and I faithfully use condoms. I am 8 days late and have taken 3 tests, all negative. I feel fine, and was cramping like normal last week but then nothing. I used Walgreens brand pregnancy tests. My question is this, do I spend the extra money and get another test like EPT or First Response or should I just wait it out until next month? Anyone been in this situation? I want to believe the test but my past experience tells me something else! What do you ladies think?

What can I do next?

I was ten days late once and was negative. It was due to a really stressful week at a temp job years ago. The boss was horrible and I guess that is what did it.

Save your money.. In my experiance, when the test is negative, your not pregnant.. Unless of course you may have miscalculated when your period was due. Have you been under any stress? Sometimes that can cause your period to be late. If you are feeling fine, I would wait.. If you don't get your period in the next two weeks, then go buy another test, of course if you are really concerned, your doctor could do a blood test to give you a definate answer. Good Luck!

Typically, generic pregnancy tests work as well as name brand. Lately, I've even used Dollar Tree tests - which were accurate several months ago when I thought I might be pregnant and wasn't, and accurate this month when we found out that I am. :)

I wouldn't bother buying any other OTC tests. I would just go ahead and set up an appointment with your doctor. If your doc thinks you might be pregnant, they can do a blood test.

Good luck!

The ladies make a good point about low hormone count and if that is the case you would want to get into the doc as soon as possible as the docs sometimes need to prescribe things like progesterone to help support a pregnancy with low counts.

You may also want to take into consideration the fact that last month was a short month. Maybe your period is on time, give it a few more days. In any case, call your OB/GYN.

You can just wait...there is no harm in that. Assume you are pregnant for the time being. Unless you just can't wait, there is no need to go to the doctor right away.

The normal amount of HCG that is produced by women widely varies and it might not matter how senstive a home pregnancy test is. I know a woman that NEVER got a positive hpt.

As for the brand, the only real difference in their sensitivity...but even they have their limitations. Especially if your HCG levels are normally low. I had done some research and found out that Wal-Mart brand was one of the most consistent and correct home tests out there.

Remember that a condom is still on 98% effective assuming that it is used exactly as it should be and there are no other extenuating factors.

I hope it turns out the way you want it to.

I would go see my doctor. If your period is usually like clock work (never late or missed) then get it checked out.
Good luck!!!

Hi Amanda,
Well, the rule is that a positive pregnancy test can't be wrong but a negetive one can be! I would recommend using an EPT test- they are the most accurate test available. If it were me I wouldn't be able to wait.
Best of luck

I would go see your doctor to get a blood work test done to see if you might be pregnant. I have tried alot of brands of pregnancy tests and they all came back negative for me and I just "knew" I was pregnant. I ended up going in to see my doctor to confirm even to myself that I wasnt crazy. I asked my doctor why the tests would always come back negative for me, and she had said that with some women they have a low hormone count for the first 3-4 months of pregnancy that it wont show up on a test unless its blood work. Maybe you are like me.

Just so you know, I know of several OB offices that use the same pregnancy test that I saw at a dollar store in Dunedin. :) Just because they're store brand tests doesn't mean they're any less accurate. I would personally make an OB appt, just so you can find out for sure... better to be safe than sorry!

Don't EVER spend more than $1 on a pregnancy test again! The Dollar Tree has tests!!!!!! They are accurate - When I wasn't preggers, they were neg - when I was preggers (2 times now) It was positive. I have given baskets of them to my friends who were trying to get pregnant - and as far as I know they have been accurate.
I'd say - go to the Dollar Tree, get a couple tests, and wait a day or two or just take one everyday till your period comes or the stick has 2 lines - whatever your hoping for the results to be - Good Luck Mama!!!!
And if it doesn't come in 2 weeks, call your Gyn, and have a check up, just in case - but no worries mama, relax - whatever will be will be :) Have a happy day
