Need suggestions for a vacuum. Bagless or with bags. Only preference is if we spend a lot of money it lasts us longer than a year. Thanks.

I bought my Dyson in 2004 or early 2005. It's the purple one (Animal) and it DOESN'T lose suction, just like the commercial says, and we've abused ours...not cleaned the filter every six months as recommended. It's a bagless which is good and bad. Good that we don't have to spend extra money on bags, but it's more work to clean out the canister every other month or so ...which I don't do that frequently and it still sucks up dirt great! They cost a lot but you can buy older models and they should still work as well as the newer models (the Ball version). Good luck!

Unlike the other posters my experience with Dyson is that they stink! I have heard this sentiment from many others also. If you are going to spend that kind of money, go for an Oreck. Also, becuause the Dyson sucks so hard, there has been research to show that it damages the fibers of the carpet so your carpet won't last as long. As for bags vs. bagless, I've had both and I think I prefer bags. I have no good reason to tell you why though ;) Good luck.

I know they're crazy expensive but, we LOVE our Dyson. We have the Animal and it is ridiculous. There was nothing wrong with our old vacuum but I came across a deal on a Dyson I couldn't pass up. I brought it home, vacummed the entire house WELL with our old vacuum and immediately vacummed again with our new Dyson. The stuff that came out of the carpet was insane! Dander, hair....all the stuff that SHOULD have come up with the old one.
We're going on our 3rd year with the Dyson and it's just fine. No issues.

Anyway, Bed Bath and Beyond usually carries a few models and they always have those 20% off coupons. That's a pretty good deal. Try Costco, too.

I purchased an Infinity about 6 months ago at WalMart and am very satisfied. I think it works almost as well as my mom's Kirby, which is what I wanted to get, but could not afford that much outlay. I believe I spent $115, but it's been on rollback a couple of times. I read reviews and did other comparisons and that's how I settled on it when I made my purchase.

We love our Dyson too! It has already lasted more than a year and it works great. If you're interested in hearing other opinions, search on this website for previous posts about this question. I posed it myself last summer and got a lot of good responses. Good luck!
