Sheets Question - JFF

I fold my sheets in nice bundles to fit into my linen closet. I fold the fitted sheet in one neat package, then the pillow cases go on top of that and they are then wrapped in to the folded flat sheet. I could SWEAR my mom taught me this - but that is NOT how she folds and stores her sheets....she keeps them separate - flat, fitted and pillow cases...

I do NOT know where I got this from...and it appears that I am the only one who does it...none of my friends store their sheets that way either...

So - how do you fold and store your sheets?!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I fold my fitted sheet this way:

Put my hand in one corner pocket, pull other end corner pocket and tuck it in. Repeat other side - so now it looks like a piece of toast with dog ears...that's what my boys say. I take the sheet and lay it on a bed, table, couch - where ever I am folding and fold the dog ears to make it square and even, then I fold it in half, half again and again - so thirds for some of you - so it is long and flat (like the flat sheet) and then take one end to the other and fold again - make it a very neat - flat sheet is the same way -

I hope I wrote that right!!! I will look at it again after lunch and taking Grady over for a play date and see if I got it right!
my linen closet has all the sheets on one shelf.

Wadded up into one of the pillowcases like a sack of laundry coming home with the college kid. I used to try and fold them neatly but just decided this is the only way to keep the set together and my folding skills are really bad.

P.S. I think you should do a YouTube Tutorial on this. Seriously!

Somehow, the only sheets for my bed that match are on the bed, so I just wash and put on again, but I have a bunch of mismatched in the linen closet stacked by type of sheet. My friend tells me I should put the sheets into the matching pillow case and store them that way, so I can just pull out an entire set at once. It might interest me if I had any that matched!
Oh, and no matter how good the directions are, I'm useless at folding fitted sheets. They all end up looking like I just balled them up.

Flat sheets are folded nicely in the closet. I can not figure out how to fold a fitted sheet. I have tried so many times, and I usually just give up and it ends up in a ball and shoved into the closet, lol!

I fold mine the same way. Actually, besides my mom, I am the only person I know that can fold a fitted sheet "correctly" so that it is neat. I hate having to look for pillow cases so they go right inside the folded flat sheet. It think that is why I started doing it this way-once I actaully figured out the right way to fold taht fitted sheet. I always ended up with a missing pillow case. I usually have extra pillow cases and they go separate if they match extra sheet sets.

I fold my fitted sheet into a nice, tight square (or rectangle, I guess...but small), fold my pillowcases and stack them on top of that, and then last goes the flat sheet, folded to the same size as the fitted, on top. I stack them in my closet in sets. :) After reading your tutorial, yes, I do it the same way as you do...but I don't wrap them in the flat sheet when done.

I am super anal about folding. All my towels have to be folded the same way, and stacked in the closet with the folds facing the same way....and it's not a sloppy half and half fold, either, it's the fold you see on the shelves at a nice linen store. Same with ALL my clothes, etc...everything has to be folded identically, stacked the same way, etc.

It's like playing God to your laundry. HAHA, I have complete control over it. :)

I HATE folding sheets (I think because I'm so short)... I either get Rob to fold them, or I just roll them all up and smash them in the linen closet ;)

It's not pretty, but it works!

I don't fold them like that but that actually sounds like a good way to keep the fitted sheet from poofing back up again after I fold it.

Hum....

I do each one separate but on top of each other.

I don't...I wash them and then put them back on the bed, we don't use a spare pair because our house has so much moisture if something sits in the linen closet for too long it smells mildewy

I hate the fitted sheet and just sort of manipulate it into some sort of disfigured square, fold the flat sheet perfectly smooth and beautiful along with the pillow cases and set them on top. I shove it into my linen closet and smash it down so it is aesthetic to the eye. You probably got that "hide the pillow cases into the sheet" thing from Martha Stewart.... I know I've read it before and thought it was a good idea until I needed clean pillow cases only on one occasion and had to dig them out.

Would you mind telling the world how you fold the fitted sheet into one neat package? Yours sounds like a good system, but that fitted sheet... great on the bed, not so great in the closet...

I end up folding up the nice parts, with the nasty fitted sheet being rolled up beside them. I'd love to learn a better way!

All the flats are in a stack, all the fitted and all the pillow cases. They are in a hope chest in my bedroom with blankets, throws, heavy comforter, etc.
I hate folding the fitted sheets though. They never look completely even, but I fold them like you explained. My MIL gets them as flat and even as the flat sheet....it's insane how she does that.

I fold my fitted sheets the same way ( learned it while working in the laundry dept at a hotel)

I lay my flat sheet down first, then place the fitted sheet on top of that, then the pillow cases on half of it and then fold the fitted and flat sheet in half and store it all together. Its easier pulling out one "bundle" and know its all together than searching for the matches.

I fold the fitted sheet nice and tucked inside each corner correctly (same way you do). I used to just stack the fitted and flat together, but then read in a magazine somewhere about making a nice little 'package' of it. So now I put the flat sheet inside the fitted sheet so there's only one thing to pick up when putting new sheets on the bed.

All pillowcases go together, no matter the color, b/c the cases that go with these sheets aren't very soft and we have some king-cases and some queen cases.

But honestly, I don't store but one set of sheets.
Guest bed only has one set that's on the bed.
Our bed only has two sets - so that's the only one set of sheets put away.
Toddler bed is a toddler bed. There's only fitted mattresses that go in a drawer. Pillow cases don't match them. I only have one sheet for my son, so it gets washed and put back on the bed the same day.

I just toss them into the linen closet....all fitted sheets in one stack, the flat sheets in another, & my collection of vintage pillowcases in a 3rd stack. Quite often, I require fitted twin sheets for the packNplays I use with my daycare. My family loves using vintage flat sheets for blankets thru the summer (for on the couch) + my daycare kids like sheets during naptime (instead of blankets). ++I store each bedroom's bedding in that room's closet- so it's easily accessible.

My mom places both folded sheets & the extra pillowcase inside the 1st pillowcase.

I fold the fitted sheet by tucking one set of corners into the other. Then trifold that to make one long piece. Then I trifold that into a square.

Flat sheet I fold side to side. Then top to bottom. Then top to bottom again. Creating a long piece. Then I trifold that.

Pillow cases get folded from top to bottom and then top to bottom again. Creating a single long piece. Then trifold.

I stack them up fitted, top, then pillow cases [in that order].

I'm such a bed snob. 〠

If I'm following you, I think we fold fitted sheets the same way. Likewise, my mother doesn't fold them this way, so I am not sure where I picked it up! I stack the flat and fitted sheet together once they're folded, and I actually store them in the room where they will be used, on a sweater hanger in the closet. That way when it's time to change the sheets, I don't have to go hunting for the right ones (the only twin bed in the house is in DD#2's room, the only queen bed is in DD#1's room, and the only CalKing is in my room, so to me this makes sense - if they were all queen beds or something, I would reconsider! ;)

Brilliant idea! The sheet cabinet is a great frustration to me because I am not the only one in and out of it. ;) The kids just don't have the same sense of tidiness that I do when they are putting away sheets and towels. It's more like shove 'em in and slam the door. Drives me bonkers! I *had* it all arranged: K, Q, T sheets in their proper place, pillowcases in their stack, towels here, washcloths there, handtowels in that pile, etc. Nobody else seems as concerned as I am about where things go! I am going to try to figure this out. It may save me a great amount of time on sheet day around here!

I store mine just like you.

I tried once storing the parts separately but found myself rummaging through the stacks for what I need. Total time waster. Or if my husband changed the sheets he would rummage through the neat stacks and made it look like a tornado blew through my linen closet. Gotta love him. :)

For my fitted sheets, I either fold it like you or pull/tuck all 4 of the fitted corners together, and then finish folding over. It just depends whether or not I am folding the entire thing standing up or using the carpet as my table. :)
