Shaving - Mechanicsburg,PA

I usually use a man's electric razor to shave my legs. Occasionally, I use a woman's manual razor during my shower. I used to be able to go at least 24 hours before needing to shave again. However, for the past few months I have been having to shave my legs twice a day, in the morning when I wake up and in the evening before bed. And recently, it has been 2 to 3 times a day. I can shave my legs at 7am and, if I am wearing pants, I will feel like I need to shave again by about 4:30. If I am wearing shorts, I can last until between 10 & 11pm. I have tried changing the blades in my electric razor. That hasn't helped. I have thought that maybe it is the type of razor that I am using. Even if I shave with a manual razor, I still need to shave twice a day. It is really a pain having to spend so much of my day shaving my legs. Have any of you had this problem? What did you do? A friend of mine suggested that it might be a hormonal inbalance and my mother suggested the start of perimenopause. Do any of you have suggestions of really good electric razors that I could try using. I would really love to get suggestions from all of you on this problem.

Hi F., I just have to laugh, I maybe shave my legs once a week! I couldn't imagine shaving them once a day let alone two or three times! Anyway, I don't have any suggestions other than waxing, I think it lasts longer. Good luck!

Before you start jumping to medical reasons, know that in hot weather, hair grows faster. Also, are you looking to be baby smooth? As long as it doesn't look heinous, I leave my legs. That means I shave them once every 4-5 days at most. So they are a little rough...who cares? I have heard an an electric razor, although good, will never beat a good manual one. You can also wax but all the hair grows at a different rate and you have to wait for it to be very long. So you really have to wait several weeks, sometimes months to get waxed again. You can try in the winter when you can do that and by the summer the hair will be noticablly thinner.

I have noticed as I age that the hair grows faster everywhere else but on my head!!! There it's thinning :-( LOL

It very well could be a hormonal balance - I would check with your doctor first and maybe run some tests.
If everything is fine, I know it seems the more you shave the faster the hair grows. You may actually be shaving too much - you could simply stop shaving for a while and resume not as frequently and see how it goes (this of course may be hard in the summer, but costs no money!)
Another idea is waxing - removing the hair by the root provides longer lasting effects over shaving.
Good Luck.

I am not that bad but do notice my hair grows a lot faster in the warmer months... Have you tried waxing? I dont know to much about it but figured I would throw it up there. I use a triple blade razor and it works well! I have never used a electric always regular blade... How many blades are you using when you use a manual? Maybe you need more blades? Good luck!

Either just deal with a little stubble or keep doing what your doing. Not much else you can do unless your willing to do laser hair removal, electrolysis or waxing.

I'm lucky if I shave twice a week, but should do it more. I shaved obsessively for a year in high school before stopping altogether for another year (the guys didn't like it when I wore shorts). I find the best shave for me is with the Schick Quattro (my husband and I buy one box of blades for the men's and we share them on our own razors). It does the best job for me. Otherwise, it sounds like hormones. I know women who have to shave their faces frequently and have hormone/thyroid imbalances. Good luck.

One reason why I love waxing is that shaving I'm sandpapery about 3 hours later. Dead serious. Even if I've been waxing for over a year, and only have to wax every other month, if I shave... to stay smooth I'd have to shave 4 times a day.

So I'm envious you can go a whole day.

I could probably justify shaving my legs 2 times a day because if I shave in the morning I do have stubble by evening but I will NEVER take the time to do that. I go to bed with stubble...I don't care about it when I am sleeping.
