Hi! I've been sharing photos with friends and family via Shutterfly. I've been thinking about creating a site of my own and I'm wondering what other services moms are using. I am looking for something easy to use and safe. I'd welcome any advice and pros and cons of any sites available out there. Thanks!

Shutterfly is a good one, snapfish is free, also my new favorite is Picasa. The last lets you store up to 5 MB (a lot of pics) and share them that way too...have fun!

dotphoto.com is a great site. You get tons of storage and a free website. It also gives you privacy and can be password protected.

Look into babysites.com - we used it until we couldn't keep up with the pictures! LOL It's free and awesome. It allows for captions on your pics and there is a guest book for people to write comments.

These days I use Smilebox.com and that is wonderful for creating e-cards that you can put your pictures or videos in. You can also change the background, choose how many pictures to a page, etc and add music if you want. It's free or for a nominal price you can have a template that is yours to use forever, just change the pictures.

Babysites is your own site but smilebox is not. Both are private and you have to be invited to view it.

Have fun!

Hi T.,

Shutterfly also offers a free website for you to create. I have mine through them and it is great. Any time you make changes to the site your members are automatically notified so you don't have to do it yourself. It is great!

I do have a blog on blogger.com, but I hardly use that, it is public, so anyone can find it. If I have a lot of photos to share, I will usually use a site like shutterfly, they are safe and only those you share the link with can access the photos. When I am just sharing highlights I post them on a website that I own. I bought a domain name and host with 1and1.net for $4.95/month. I design it myself using Frontpage which is just as easy to use as Word and any problems I've had tech support has helped me with immediately. You wouldn't find my site unless you were looking for it, but it is not locked in any way. I also have a myspace page which I share with some more distant friends that is private.

I use Shutterly as well and love it. I have tried totspot.com and babysites.com...but Shutterfly is definitely better. What don't you like about it?

I too use Shutterfly, their sharing site is wonderful! I also have a blog on wordpress.com, you can set everything to private, and can also invite people to subscribe to your blog.

Love mypublisher, facebook, and phanfare.com. Phanfare is a great site to load up and share photos for free (up to a certain amount - but it's a TON of photos you can load free). Have fun!

I use blogspot: www.blogger.com

You can choose to not have your site in the directory and then the only way that people can access it is if they know the exact address of your blog. You can also add a user name/password if you want. I added google analyitcs to my site so I could monitor activity.

There's also a site called something like: How fast they grow. Trying googling that. Apparently they offer scrapbook look templates and you can make virtual albums. I've never used it but a friend on facebook does.

I use Shutterfly for picture sharing but I blog several times a week and add more details and comments. It's also a great way to build a virtual baby book since I've been really bad about doing one!

Good luck! Let us know what you think!

I use Shutterfly's free sharing site. it's awesome and free and lets you share photos, videos, blog, pretty much whatever you want! You can set up other people to be able to contribute photos too. it's really nice. if you already have a shutterfly account, just go into the Projects section and you'll see the area to set up a share site. Good luck & have fun!

We used aboutmybaby.com. You can create a website solely for your child and you have approval over who has access to the website. Family and friends with access can get weekly notifications when you update the website with videos and pictures and you can create a journal that your baby "writes". It was wonderful for us, with half of our family living out of state.

I use 1 site for my family. It is www.myfamily.com . Another site I use is www.freewebs.com. I use this site for my daughter's health information. I also use www.multiply.com for my blog. I love this site since it has a section for blogs, recipes, music, links, photos. I hope this gets you started.

I use babysites.com. They provide areas for journaling, photos, videos, growth chart, etc. To avoid double uploading my photos (and not use up too much space on the website) I put links to my photos on Snapfish in the babysite.

Our family uses Snapfish.com . You have to order a least one thing in the year which is very cheap. I have my account and we also have family account. Check out their website I am sure that you will enjoy it - they give you alot of freebees and prints for only $0.19 each. Good luck

Hi,
This isn't exactly what you asked for, but I just made an on-line photo book with the company MyPublisher.com, for the first year of life for my son. I was really thrilled with the results, and more importantly, if you make an account with them, they frequently e-mail you sales where you can make one book, get one free! I just took advantage of this, and now I have a beautiful photo book for my husband and I, and one for our son to have in his future! Good Luck!

I share photos using shutterfly's free websites. It would be real easy for you to start since you already have a lot of your photos uploaded to shutterfly. Check out my website at http://momentsremembered.shutterfly.com

I also recently started using blogspot.com to blog my photography. It give you the opportunity to write as much as as little about your photos. It does take a lot more time though.

If you have a mac, with iphoto its really easy to use the iweb and the mac homepage. If not, I love facebook. Posting pics is really easy and you can get your friends and family to join your group and easily view their photos and goings on as well.

Are you sharing on Shutterfly by sending photos or by creating your own website? I have made 3 websites through shutterfly (both families & my daughter's swim team,) and the only people who can view it are the people that I invited on to it. They have many templates for you to choose from, and if you already have your photos on shutterfly, it only takes seconds for them to copy to your website. I absolutely love it, and everyone that has joined has gone on to do other things with Shutterfly.

I have a site at www.totsites.com They have a free version and then you can upgrade for a yearly fee (difference is more space and designs) It's very user friendly and my family loves being able watch my kids grow on the page. They have areas for journaling, growth charts, fun facts, pictures, etc. Check it out!!!

Blogspot + Picasa = idiotproof!

I've had a blog for my 2.5 year old since he wa about 6 months old. We use Picasa to manage our pictures (which I think you download for free). You choose a picture and hit the button "blog this". Then you can write captions or tell stories or whatever. This site is so great- I usually leave all this computer stuff to my husband, but blogspot is so easy, I think I was starting to become a blog-aholic!

Good luck!
