Hi ladies, my question is I have tried almost every shampoo/conditioner I can find on the shelf but still have not found one that does not leave my hair feeling like STRAW when I rinse off the shampoo. Not only that but I end of with globs of hair on my hands. I should be bald from all the hair I loose. I saw a commercial the other morning about a product called, "Wen". Has anyone ever tried it or does anyone have any other suggestions? I have thick dry hair.

What can I do next?

I have not tried Wen but I know several people who rave about it. They said, look on the internet because it is expensive. I LOVE Nexxus Humectress - both the rinse out and leave in conditioners (I use both).

I haven't tried this myself yet, but the Long Hair forum RAVES about this so there might be something to it:

1 part Fave conditioner (must be moisture), mine is VO5-Sun Kissed Raspberry.
1/4 part honey
1/4 part clear aloe vera gel (I use Fruit of the Earth).

Place in a cup and warm in microwave for 10 to 15 seconds--just until warm. Wash hair and squeeze out excess, blot dry, cover your hair with it, leave in under heat cap, warm towels or shower cap, what have you, for an hour or so. Rinse well and style as usual Wah-la!!! Extreme Moistness.

Have you tried All Soft by Redkin? I use that & then before drying, I use Redkin Extreme AntiSnap. Regarding your hair loss, is it just because you have thick hair? Or could it be medically related? I had issues with my thyroid years ago (overactive) and my hair started falling out and became extremely brittle. It was no fun until I got it under control. I also agree you shouldn't wash every day. I have some dry shampoo that I use for my in between days.

My sister and I both have thick dry hair. She tried Wen and hated it. She didn't like that it made her hair feel dirty.
Do you wash your hair every day? We do not. We have different hair stylists & both said to wash only when we need to wash. It's made a big difference.
Redkin has a product called "Time Rest" It repairs the inside core of your hair. This has worked wonders for me. (Both shampoo and conditioner) Also, Argan oil is great. You would put this one right after the shower.
My last suggestion would to always use a blow dry cream to protect your hair if you're drying it.
Good luck!

I have been using Dove, it works for my hair, I have in-between curly hair. How often do you wash your hair? My stylist said to wash my hair every other day, (yet I wash it out everyday). Also, switch off with shampoo's and conditioners! But honestly, Dove, in my opinion is the best! Good Luck!

I have used Wen! And I really like it!
I have thick hair (actually told I just have lots of hair, not thick) and it needs lots of moisture. I think it is worth the cost, plus the bottles are big and last a long time.

I also like: http://www.giovannicosmetics.net/item.asp?prodtype=HAIR%2...

Hopefully that shows up right...it is the richest formula and matching conditioner. I always notice a difference after I use it.

HTH!

I have a super sensitive scalp (I get psoriasis on my scalp, ears and neckline)..hair coloring stains my scalp for several days after doing it (I am trying to embrace my grey now...after about 3-4 years of coloring it to get the grey out of my temples..just not worth it!).

I keep my hair short..inverted bob with real shorty short in the back and long points in the front...and that helps with the hay-like hair (frequent cuts). Mine has always been super thick too but is starting to come in slightly thinner now as I get older (early 40's). I have finally found a shampoo that keeps my scalp in balance and seems to make it about as soft as I think it will get. I envy those "soft and silky" haired gals. I have never had hair like that since I was a child!

I use the "Yes to Carrots" (the orange line) http://www.yestocarrots.com/category/nourishing,-normal-t.... I get it at Target or Walgreens.

I tried another touting their organic ingredients (made by the people who started the Aussie line years ago...new line by the original makers)...and it made my hair silky and soft, but after a few weeks, it made my psoriasis flare real bad. 5 days back to the Carrots stuff and its healed up. I am convinced to stick with my Carrots line! Maintains that balance to my scalp and makes my hair feel nice!

Good luck!

EDIT to add: forgot to say...I take meds for migraine prevention (daily stuff) that has mild hair loss as a side effect...it goes in spurts for me, nothing I can really control it seems? Not sure if shampoo helps or not, but I do see less breakage. I have used the Carrots stuff about a year now, but as I stated, my hair is pretty short but for the front angled part. Also, we got our soft water thingy working right...dh got numbers from the city and ??? but its finally working right after all these years, so I believe that is part of the puzzle for me as well.

I have thick, dry hair too and my scalp tends to dry out. My hairdresser recommended shampoo with Tea Tree oil. I love it! It has done wonders for my scalp and leaves my hair very soft!

I have sensitive skin and Wen made my forehead break out. It was awesome on my hair, however. When I talked to them about it they sent me their cucumber aloe formula. That was better on my skin but not as moisturizing for my hair. I love Kerastase products. I also like Andre Walker keratin hair products.

First of all, most shampoos out there are very harsh, and contain similar ingredients as clothes detergent. Would you really want to wash your hair with clothes detergent??? They cause a lot of dryness and if you dye your hair, it will make your dye fade a lot quicker because it literally washes the color off from your hair. If you want a healthier, less-harsh alternative, you should switch to a sulfate-free shampoo. There are several shampoos now that are coming out with sulfate-free lines, including those found in mass retail chains. I use "Hair One" from Sally's Beauty Supply. I also use "One 'n Only Brazilian Keratin Conditioner", which is a very soft, deep conditioner that leaves my hair silky. Many people swear by Argan Oil/Moroccan Oil and my friend who had a lot of damage from bleaching her hair has had her hair improve significantly since using it, so this is another option. The best thing to do though, is to ask your hair dresser what she recommends for your particular hair texture. If you do not have a hair dresser, the ladies at Sally's Beauty Supply are generally very friendly and helpful and can recommend the best thing for you based on looking at your hair. Try going to their website and using their "store locator" feature to find the store closest to you. I have never used Wen but have heard it is pricey. Hope this helps!
