Seven Month Old Waking up Wet

My seventh month old daughter wakes up soaked every morning. We put her to bed with a clean diaper and she sleeps 12-13 hours at night. By the time she wakes up she is completely soaked because the diaper leaks all over her tummy. We always used Target brand diapers (size 3) and then switched to Pampers at nighttime and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded. We ended up putting Huggies on in a size 4 at night and voila! No more leaks! We still use the cheaper Target brand in size 3 during the day but the larger Huggies at night. No more washing the sheets every day! Thanks so much for all the great advice!

If you know that she is waking up like that, I know you are just geting used to being able to sleep through the night but you will have to get up and change her in the middle of the night. She is what is called a heavy wetter. If you don;t want to have to keep changing the sheets every morning you have to get and and change her.

Try putting her in size 4s at night. We had the same problem and switched to 4s at night. It worked!

I am a big fan of Target diapers too - but the same thing was happening with us. So I started using Huggies Overnights just a bedtime and they have worked wonderfully. No more wet mornings! Good luck.

We used huggies overnites with my daughter. They were the only thing that worked. They are cheapest at Target (I don't/won't shop at Walmart). You can also find diaper inserts called Diaper Doublers at Toys R Us or Babies R Us. We were at Toys R Us yesterday and I saw the diaper doublers there for $2.99. The huggies overnights run around $10 for a month's worth.
Good luck!

I had the same problem and I tried night diapers, going up a size in the diaper at night, and diaper doublers. We are still using diaper doublers every night and if it gets forgotten my daughter wakes up wet....other wise with the diaper doubler she just has a VERY heaver diaper in the a.m. I bought mine at Babies R Us....they are by the diapers and they cost $2.99 for 30 of them....so they are not badly priced. Good luck! I know what its like to have to change a wet bed and give a bath every morning bc they are covered in pee!

Try a bigger size diaper. My daughter wears size 4 during the day and size 5 at night. Any time we put her in a 4 for night, it leaks all over her belly, too. We use Pampers Cruisers. Good luck!

I had the same problem, and my sister suggested nighttime diapers. I think they're Huggies, but they specifically say Nighttime on them. I've found them cheapest at Wal-Mart, and watch for Huggies coupons. They're a little more expensive, but totally worth it, especially since you only use one a day. Hope this helps!

I had the same problem with my daughter. We double diapered her each night. We would put a size 2 and 3 on her (she wore a 2) and it worked like a charm. We have always used Pampers baby dry because they fit her the best, but any would probably work for you.

I had this problem with my now 3 yr old. She is just a heavy sleeper and wetter. After weeks of trying to figure it out -- I asked the Dr, and she suggested we go a size bigger in the diaper at night time. Since they aren't ask active, moving around and such -- the extra absorbancy was just what we needed!! She woke up dry after that!
Since you'll be heading to the next size eventually anyway -- there isn't a waste in trying it!

Good luck!!

HI K.,

A little trick I used for my daughter was to double diaper her.

When you put on the first one, tear away the plastic outer layer. ( Not the whole diaper, but the necessary are for girls or more in the front for boys) Then put on a second one.

This should take care of the problem. Two diapers are way cheaper than all the laundry and hassle.

Good luck,

C.

You may want to try another brand for bedtime only and put rubber pants on after. It will keep from getting all over. would she wake up if you went in the middle of the night to change her. THe other thing is to be conscieous of the last time you gave her something to drink. Stop about 2 hours before bedtime and make sure she is dry then.

I had the same problem with my daughter (she is 2) and still do. What I use to do is buy the next size diaper for bedtime and found LUVS to work best. She was still wetting through every once in a while as she got older, but now they have came up with HUGGIES NIGHTTIME diapers - NEVER WETS THE BED NOW!!! Love them!!!! The other option that my sister-in-law told me about when I had my son is to cut a maxi pad in half and put it right in the spot that needs more absorbency.

I used Huggies Overnights on my son, too, which worked pretty well. You can get them at Diapers.com as well as Target (I, also, won't shop at Walmart!). As far as the diaper doublers, I've heard that tucking a super-maxi pad in the diaper works. Haven't tried it, but that's what I've heard.

We started having the same problem, only our daughter was about 12 months (now almost 18 months).
We switched to the Huggies Overnights. They were a bit big on her, but we hicked them up and velcroed them tight. They hold an AMAZING amount.
Depending on how much your daughter weighs, you might be able to get away with them.

Not to sound like a salesperson, but the only diaper brand I DID NOT have leak problems with was Huggies. Luvs and Pampers always leaked with both my kids. Huggies are more expensive, so if that's an issue you could try Huggies at night and the less expensive brands during the day.
I hate to suggest trying anything else, because it sounds like she's a great sleeper. No fun having to change sheets all the time though! Good luck!

Hi K.,
We also ussed Pampers in the beginning afte rour daughter was born and had the same problem. Only she moved around so much in her sleep that she sometimes wiggled out of them, no matter how well we thought we fastened them. We switched to Huggies ( I stocked up on both after learning I was pregnant) and have used Huggies ever since. She will also sleep 12-13 hours/night and only had one accident, but that was only because she figured out how to undo the diaper and was pulling it apart in her sleep. Now when she wears nightgowns to bed, I put on one of her diaper covers that are usually used for her dresses and she doesn't bother the diaper and still wakes up dry after a long nights sleep. I also heard that Pampers are better for boys and Huggies for girls, not sure why that is, but I have no complaints after 19 months. Good luck!

I never tried the diaper doublers. That sounds like a great idea. What I did with my little ones, was I got to a point where I needed to do a quick change before I went to bed at night (around 11/12). I left the lights off and skipped the wipes and just did a quick change. That usually did the trick and my kids were so tired at that time that if they did wake it was briefly and they went right back to sleep when i was done. This worked as it seems like the bulk of the urine was accumulated in the first few hours after they went to sleep.

They are the best diaper.....If you need size 3 you can only buy them at babies r us or toys r us...

if she can wear a size 4 you can get them several places target CVS rite aid meijers..

My daughter was a heavy nighttime wetter and she wore huggies overnights from about 12 months..

they are worth the extra money... and you only use 1 per night so it is really not that much more expensive.

Keep trying with the different brands. I found LUVS to work really well. Another suggestion is maybe plastic pants. You know the kind that was used with cloth diapers.

It is great that she sleeps that length of time! You are very fortunate. I guess along with that, comes the downside of trying to find something to keep her dry.

Hope this helps.

It is always a balance between work and family. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds. As adults we do need that adult time and keep our brains stimulated.

Sorry to hear about your concern. I have always sworn by Huggies Overnights. They have a thicker middle layer in them and seem to hold a lot more than other brands. In addition, at night I always go one size up in diapers. They may be a little big, but you just pull them up higher around the middle of their body and pull the tabs in a little closer to secure it more snug around their middle. But, again, Huggies overnights rock! I can find them at Target and Meijer. But it seems when they hit the shelves they are gone, so don't give up in the search to find them!! I have always been a loyal Pampers fan, because that has worked with my two children, but when it came to this problem with my kids, the Huggies overnights made a world of difference! Best of Luck and don't worry, you are not alone in this problem. My two did it around the same time of age and it did not seem to last long. :)

try pampers swaddlers, they are more absorbant than regular pampers. or you can try a nighttime diaper (not sure if they make them for the smaller babies though). you could also have her sleep on a lap pad, at least you won't have to change sheets all the time. good luck!

I use cloth but perhaps my advice can help - with a cloth when they get to the point of leaking at night you use a diaper doubler. I tend to use a smaller diaper like one of the infant ones... if you used a small cloth diaper or a thick wash cloth I think you would have great results.

Restrict her liquid intake before bedtime. Otherwise, I don't see what the problem is because this is not unususal for a 7 month old. It's part of the package. You go through a lot of diapers. Is there a diaper out there that is extra absorbant?
