Nasser at Uptown Auto Repair is very honest and very good. He's on W. Anderson near N. Lamar--###-###-####.
Hi. I'm just getting ready to move back to Austin after 16 years in CA. Unfortunately, we will be leaving one of our cars in CA, and so will need to buy a new (used) one once we get to Austin. Does anyone know of a good, trustworthy mechanic that I can have look at cars that we might buy? Many thanks!

Pond Springs Automotive...the best!

You don't say what part of Austin you're moving to, but we like Austin's Choice Auto, located at I-35 and Wells Branch Parkway. We have been taking our cars there for about 2 years. They also just opened a new facility in Cedar Park, but not sure of the location.
A goof friend of mine is a great mechanic . He used to do it full time. He just fixed my truck . Send me an email and I'll see if I can get yall in touch.

Gene Johnson on Airport is your best bet. They have checked out and worked on all of the cars that I have ever owned. Most of my friends, too.
Michael Yost and his crew are incredibly honest and their prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend them. They are near the SW corner of 290 and I-35.
I really like Gordon Automotive on Burnet - http://www.gordonautomotive.com
We got them to check out a used car we bought and also had them check out a car we were selling, both times they were thorough and right on the money with issues. Seem like really good people!
If it's German or Japanese, Joe at Flamingo Automotive (37th & Guadalupe) is fantastic and honest.
I used a company here called Lemonbusters...they come out to the car check it over and were (10 yrs ago) around $90. They saved me several times from major engine problems to this car has been wrecked and showed me how they knew. I really liked them but I have an awesome husband now who buys me new cars so I haven't used them in a while.
