Seeking Toddler Swimming Lessons in Western Suburbs

I'm looking for a facility that offers swim lessons for toddlers, preferably in a heated pool. I've found some that offer lessons in an indoor pool, but I've heard horror stories of freezing water - something I wouldn't look forward to, let alone by 2-year-old. I live in Western Springs, so anything close by would be great.

The YMCA in LaGrange is very popular for swim lessons and they do a great job. The pool is very warm. It is closing in mid-February and moving to satellite sites to do their lessons while they find/build a new facility. Another alternative I've heard good things about is Lifetime Fitness club in Burr Ridge. They apparently also have a good program and it is a very nice facility. LT does lessons in the summer, I believe, but I've also heard that pool is pretty chilly.

Look into your local park districts. My girlfriend took her kids to the Y in La Grange, but I think they are closing. Plus not too certain of the cleaniness of that pool. I do know that Lyons Township High School has open swims to the public, but not certain if they also do lessons there or if the pool is heated. I would imagine it would need to be for the students.

Hi L.,
I have taken my son to the YMCA in Wheaton for a year now. He is going on two also. The pool is wonderful! It is super nice and warm. Infact a couple of times I went and my husband got in the water and it was to hot for me to even hang out in the pool room. That was last winter actually! Plus the family locker room is nice and big with a nice changing area right next to the pool. I am not sure if all Y's are the same but I love mine. Plus it is cheap!
Hope that helps!

My 3 year old takes a fabulous swim class at the Y in Downers Grove (at 59th street). The Y has a heated pool. Plus, I just got a message today that the Y is having a special the first week in January where you can join without any membership fee (you just pay the monthly fee). I'm considering having just my 3 year old join (I've been paying the non-member price for the class). The class he took was a 2 1/2 hour class where all the kids brought their lunch, they ate lunch together, then had a 1/2 hour of some craft activity, then 1/2 hour of gym, then a 1/2 hour of swim class. It was great, it was like having him in preschool for a 3rd day (his preschool is only 2 days a week), and he loved it. They have several sessions (I didn't sign him up for this last session because I just had a baby), but will sign him up again for the 2nd winter session (which, I think starts in January). Hope that helps.
