So What Happened?

Michael's ROCKS! They had a cute little package of princess crowns on toothpicks with pink & purple cupcake liners that say "Birthday Princess". Grabbed some pink & purple sparkle sprinkles and we are set for a wonderful princess party. Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. Loving all of the help mamasource contributors offer!

My local Grocery store does a really cool cupcake cake. They put them all together and then frost it like a cake. You can pretty much do what ever you want. A crown, Castle, etc. Enjoy and have fun!

Every year for my daughters B-day I just bring the invitation or a plate/napkin (something that has the party theme on it) to the bakery with me when I place the order. Do it a few days in advance and tell them to make it match the item you provided. I usually do Albertsons or Safeway. I have had success every year now, going on 11. It's a lot less expensive than the private bakeries

I don't know how much time you want to put into this but, my grandma once made me a cake that was like a princess. It was a dome-shaped cake with a Barbie stuck in the middle. She was waist deep in the cake. The dome part was decorated like a fancy shirt part and she used frosting to create the bodice. I'm thinking if you can find some small dolls, you could do the same thing with a cupcake. Just pile on the frosting to make it dome-shaped. The following website has pictures of cakes and near the end are some cupcakes. I hope that helps. Have fun!

I did something similar to what Jody R. described. Instead of using a bundt pan and a Barbie Doll, I found a miniature bundt pan that made the cakes small enough to put a Kelly doll in the center of each, and then I frosted the cake to look like a dress. I used the frosting to make the bodice using a cake decorating tip. Michaels has spray food coloring that gave each doll a dusting of color on top of the frosting color that added an elegant touch. Each girl took home their own Kelly, with the clothes they came with in their goodie bag. My son attended the party too, but being the only boy I didn't want to make a Kelly doll for him, so I got a Batman action figure and dressed him up in a 'dress' too. It was the hit of the party.

I'd get some sugar cones and turn them upside down on the cupcakes- on top of frosting- so they sit at an angle. I'd chop a little nibble off the top and using fosting to "glue" them in place, tuck candy stings like licorice ropes- I'm sure a candy store would have colored/flavored ones- into the end of the cone. Color the sugar cone with frosting and maybe find some little silver or pink/purple candy balls to decorate the "princess hats". You could put a row around the base of the hat like rhinestones or find some other candy items to decorate the top where the licorice ropes are.

Hope that helps!!!

Have you considered letting each child decorate his/her own cupcake? You could decorate a few cupcakes or a small cake for a centerpiece with candles to blow out, then provide "blank" cupcakes for each child. They could be pre-frosted in a choice of colors: pink, white, purple. Then let the kids create their own dessert using tubes of decorator frosting, candy sprinkles, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows and anything else you can think of. Provide some old adult sized workshirts or aprons to cover their pretty party clothes while they decorate and eat their cupcakes. If there are many party guests, you can set up several decorating stations using muffin tins to organize the candies. Provide a large paper plate for each cupcake to catch the overflow. Assign someone to take pictures of each child's creation and have extra cupcakes on hand that they can eat, in case they want to take home the one they made.

cupcakes are definitely easy at a b-day party/for school...but the Princess Bundt cake is really cute - if you have not seen, most grocery store bakerys make it, but you basically make a bundt cake (with a hole in the middle) and stick a barbie doll into the middle so the head is sticking out the top and then decorate the cake as if it was the skirt of a ball gown...
For a cupcake idea, although it is not so princessy, you can frost cupcakes and then make circles around the top with pink and purple gels - then take a skewer and drag the center circle out - it make a tie-dye effect...Finally, there are tons of cake decorating things (easy to find at Michaels craft store) that you can use in pink and silver.

You might want to log onto Wilton's website. Wiltons is a company that sells cake decorating supplies. They usually have good ideas there. Ther are also many cake and cupcake decorating cookbook/idea books that I came across at Barnes and Noble. I was there the other day looking for a gardening book, and passed by the cook book section and noticed alot of cupcake and cake books.

For cupcakes I would dye the frosting pink and purple then find some sort of princess item for the tops (little glass slippers, crowns, etc-look at any party store). If you want the best princess cake in the world try fred meyer, it looks like a castle, has a princess picture frame, and a bunch of disney princess figurines on top too!

I worked in a bakery for 3 yrs before I got married and have done cakes on the side for several yrs.

Make cupcakes without linning the tins. Just grease really well. There are special little doll picks you can buy at cake dec. stores. I don't think they are very expensive. anyways... You decorate the cupcakes with a star tip. Do the top, bottom and sides. Then you stick the doll picks in. Ta da you have princesses in dresses.

I would be happy to help you if you live close enough. I love teaching others how to cake decorate, cuz I just find it fun!!!

I am a SAHM of one very bright 3 yr old boy.

You could use pink and purple food coloring (a blending of colors actually) in white frosting. Then you could put pink or purple sprinkles/jelly belly's/whatever you want around the outside edges. Then you should be able to pick up Princess themed rings or something like that at Wal-Mart/Toys R Us/Target/Dollar Store and stick those in the middle. Then they can have a cupcake and keep a party favor at the same time.....

I recently made pink/purple cupcakes for my friend (her daughter turned one) i used wilton's color dye (which i use for all my cakes) and i was able to find little miniture tiarra's at party city. i stuck them in and sprinkled clear sprinkles on them to look like fairy dust. You can get fairy dust at Michaels, but the sprinkles worked just as well. I have pictures if you want to see them... just email me at ____@____.com. i love making cakes for busy moms.. just let me know if you need help! Good luck!

A friend of mine made princess wand cupcakes for her daughter's birthday recently. She used brownie mix instead of cake mix so it would be more firm and hold shape better. You can make the actual cupcakes in any mold shape you like (or just regular cupcakes, but don't use the paper cups), but don't make them too large. Decorate them with frosting any way you want, then use those really large pretzel sticks to stick in the side and - voila - you have a princess wand. They're pretty cute.
Good luck!

I don't know if you are wanting to do the party yourself but if not I just had my daughter's 5th birthday party and she had a princess tea party theme. A mom and her daughter put it on and they do absolutley everything! They make the invitations, provide the food, tea, music and games. You just sit back and watch. The invitations are made to go into a scroll that you and your daughters' do together and then they get to wear a crown and pass them out on a pillow to all their friends. It is so cute. My daughter's party turned out so cute and the girls were so quiet sitting there drinking their tea and listening on how to drink tea "properly"! I have been doing both my daughters' parties and usually spend quite a bit of money and put a lot of work into them so this was a real treat just having to show up. Oh, and they bring chests of jewelry, hats, gloves, and dresses for all the girls to dress up in. Their website is butterfliesandtulips.com. The mom and daughter are super nice and fun. Hope this helps.

Hello!

We had a princess party for our daughter when she turned 5. We ordered a cupcake castle cake, but it wouldn't be hard to make yourself. I'll try to describe it for you:
The cupcakes were arranged tightly together in the shape of a castle (flat, like one flat cake, not a tiered, 3-d cake). They were frosted AS ONE CAKE, with pink frosting as the base color, and lavender for the towers, drawbridge, windows, etc. Then, below the castle, on the cake base (it was a cardboard cake holder), they used different colored frosting to create a moat and grass. Above the castle, on the cake base, they wrote "Happy Birthday Princess Emma". We used Disney princess plates, napkins, etc.

So basically it was a whole bunch of cupcakes combined to LOOK like one big flat cake. Each child just grabbed a cupcake.

It was really neat, and it would not have been all that hard for a DIY cake froster (which I am not, sadly).

I hope this helps!

Hi K.,

If you go to my website and look under "parties" (www.maidenUS.com) and you'll see some cupcake ideas that work great and can be altered to a design for princesses - if it were me, I'd use material (if it were for a ballerina, tulle, or a princess, pink/purple satins - and create a skirt effect on each). Just an idat :-)

My friend did this for her little girl last year. I don't know exactly what she did, and I'm sure it takes a little extra creativity along with no fear of failure =) but she stacked the cupcakes so that they created a little castle. each one was iced and decorated with various sparkly sugary (i.e. wonderful) things. Good luck, I hope this helped!

I have made cupcakes with a little pair of Barbie shoes on each one. (I saw it in a magazine.) I know that may be more "Barbie" and less "princess," but I was kind of thinking about Cinderella's glass slippers...? It looks like you have a lot of great ideas to draw from. Happy birthday to your little princesses! :)

Hi K.,
I did a search online through Dogpile.com and came up with this site that has cupcake picks that are pretty cute. You get 6 for 99 cents. http://www.shopbakersnook.com/m5_view_item.html?m5:item=1820

There is also this site that has actual Disney Princess cupcake picks. http://www.babykakes.com/licensed%20characters5.htm

If you have a Walmart in your area, look in the party aisle there. I've been able to find some really neat things to decorate cakes, cupcakes with. Also treats for treat bags for the party. Good luck!!! I know your princesses will LOVE whatever you come up with.
