Second Chance SPCA in Plano is very good about matching people with pets! Call them and stop by, they are right by the Collin county Mall near where 75 meets the George Bush, and they have regular adoption events at local pet stores. See their site!

Good luck!

Tell them Hi for me!

Please, please, please adopt. Second chance pets are wonderful. Petsmart and Petco support the local rescue/shelter organizations. Operation Kindness is in Carrollton, SPCA in McKinney, and other local shelters are in the area. Avoid Puppy Mill pet stores (Petland) and brokers. Google "Puppy Mill" and you will see why. Over the years we have rescued dogs and they have been the most loyal and loveable family pets we could ever imagine. Please adopt today. Thank you.

American Kennel Club has a great web site to search and learn about different breeds. That's where we started. We wanted a small dog that did not shed. We found that the Maltese was right for our family, and we are extremely happy with her. There are several other small dogs that are great, and it's worth learning about the breed before looking so that you get the right fit for you! I wish you and your new little one a happy home!

I understand Allen has a great animal shelter. There are several great shelters in the area. Try Operation Kindness in Carrollton or Treasured Friends in Dallas or the animal shelter in Plano. My in-laws just adopted a pet off of Petfinder.com.

Go to the Frisco or McKinney Humane Society. We adopted from Frisco and it was Great. They foster the dogs first so you know what te personality is and everything about them. There are so many wonderful dogs who need a great home!

Hi T.,
First, please rescue- don't buy!!! The best dogs in the world are not in any pet shop :) I am going to forward this post to my mom. She accidentally became the primary caregiver for my sweet little Peanut, an 11 lb. Chiweenie (Chihuahua & mini-Dachshund mix), but she would like to find her a home with someone who would love her as much as we do. Peanut is a rescue-- she was the first of our 3 current dogs, and she is a LOVER. She is such a fun, happy girl- she looks like the taco bell dog after a few tacos. She is great inside & out-- loves the car & loves to sit in your lap and sleep with you (but is just fine in her crate). Unfortunately, she is determined to be an ONLY DOG. She doesn't want to share her human with another canine. She doesn't have any problems with our cats, but she is a total B*#?% to our sweet 90 lb. female hound dog, and has almost been eaten for lunch twice (but she gets along great w/our male sharpei/lab). That's why my mom has her. She is darling- current on all vaccinations, spayed & micro-chipped. If you'd like pictures &/or would like to know more about my little Peanut Butter please email me @ ____@____.com, she is my 6th rescue & my second rescued Chiweenie- my first was with me for 14 years. It's just a great mix. A sweet snuggler who loves to burrow under the covers & chill out, but still fun & energetic without being over the top! I found her on petfinder.com- a great website if you're looking to fall in love!!!
You're going to love being a dog-mom, whoever you end up adopting!
Good luck! Suzi

You should try DFW Pug Rescue. The animals all need a good home. They usually are already potty trained because they are one yr old. Pugs are great dogs and loving pets. http://dfwpugrescue.org/

Hi T., my name is H. Wilson. I'm a divorced mother with a great 10 year old daughter. I bought my daughter a lil Chiahuah for her birthday a year and a half ago. She's great, still small and considered a puppy. Likes alot of attention that we just have not been able to give her because of busy schedules and always being gone. We lucked out my mother moved in 9 months ago, but have now moved out. She was able to care for her when we were gone. My daughter is having issues with us possibly having to give her away. Her name is "Butter-cup". Very active, playful, good lil watch dog, but loves attention "ALOT"! Up on all her shots. I would luv to talk with you a lil bit more about her, if your still looking. I had thought about giving her back to who I brought her from, but really would like to have a loving family take her. if interested at all, please feel free to give me a call at ###-###-####. Thank you!

Hi,

I don't have a puppy available but I do recommend schnauzers! Our family has had schnauzers for many, many years and really like them.

Have you tried the shelters. SO many people of dumping their animals now due to money woes at home. I think it is terrible because my dogs are my fur babies and I would never consider giving them up.

Anyway, shelters are supposedly over crowded. We have 2 Cockers and a toy Poodle. I will stick with toy poodles. Other than being more difficult to house train, he is such a joy. He is my shadow, in y lap all the time. Very protective as well. Also, non-shedding therefore no allergy issues. We do get him professionally groomed every couple months around $40. We got ours from a breeder about 3 yrs ago and he did cost us a small fortune, however, times are different now.

Check out the Allen Animal Shelter on Allen Heights as well. They had quite a few animals when I was there last.

Good luck....GO Eagles!!

We adopted our dog through http://hartoftexas.org/. They also foster dogs. I wouldn't adopt a dog that someone hasn't lived with yet. That way, you really get an idea of the dog's idiosyncrasies. We knew what kind of dog we wanted (small, non-shedding) and were able to tell them and wait for one. We are very happy with our dog!

Best wishes!
W. in Carrollton

Hi T.,

I have a small Chihuahua/Rat terrier mix that I need to find a new home for. I work at a Vet clininc in Dallas and someone brought him in, they found him in their back yard. He is approx. 6 to 7 months old. He is a very sweet little guy, but he needs more attention than I can give him at this point. Since I have 2 kids and 2 step sons, Im always on the go. He is already neutered, microchipped, and had his shots for the year. I will give you the food I have for him, and also the heartworm pills that I have left for him. He is still very much puppy so likes to chew, but he loves rawhide bones. We are still working on the potty training but with some more help, I know he will get it. If you are interested in him, I will give him to you if you keep me updated regularly on him and promise to keep him on the heartworm prevention. Also if you are interested, I will email you some pictures so you can see him first. Oh one more thing, he has one eye smaller than the other but it doesnt slow him down a bit. It will not affect him later in life either. Hope to hear from you soon. My email is ____@____.com.

Hi T.. My name is P., and we live in Plano. Did you find a small dog you like yet? I see you had several responses already. Our deal is that we have 'acquired' over the years 3 small dogs at different times and need to give one or two of them to good homes. Just too many animals to take care of now.
All are just 20 - 22lbs each; full grown (about 5 years old each); very loving. They do love to go for walks on occasion, but are great indoor dogs too. They all love to cuddle! Please let me know if you're still interested. Thank you, Pam P.S. I forgot to mention that our dogs are a Shih Tzu (black/white) and a Lhasa Apso/Schnauzer mix (not for sure what mix, but it mostly black). Both are males; neutered; microchipped; up-to-date on shots, etc.; both are rescue dogs; already potty trained, etc.
