My adorable one year-old has had skin allergy to products with fragrancies since she was 3 monthes old. We use Aveeno, wash & lotion, and love it, we also have a standing prescription for hydrocordizone. It works and does not break her out, but with summer fast aproaching I need a good sunscreen and bugspray. Hypo-allerginic and Fragrance Free! Cost at this point does not matter, she got bitten by mosquitos this weekend and her leg swelled so bad, we may need a prescription for it but if ya'll have any suggestion before we call our doc that would be great.
Help, Help, Help!

My little girls have the same problem. We generally use the Off Skintastic fragrance free. It is also DEET free as well so there is no skin iritation. Unfortunately the only sunscreen we have were able to use was prescription stuff. Luckily their skin has gotten better so no we use the water babies aresol. it goes on light and stays well. Hope this helps and good luck.

Stick with what you know. Aveeno makes a great sunscreen and it comes in a kids version. I use the grown-up kind for me and the kids version for my 15 month old son.

Hi, My little girl who is now three has always had bad skin allergies. She is allergic to most sunscreens but after a bad reaction recently the dermatologist recommended a brand call Blue Lizard. I haven't been able to find it in Tuscaloosa, but according to there website it is sold at CVS but you can also order it off the internet. They also have a Blue Lizard baby. It is a Zinc oxide based and the bottle itself changes colors in UV light to let you know. Check out the website if you have a chance.

Burt's Bees Products and youngliving products are good ones to try. www.youngliving.com, Burt's Bees are at most Health food stores. Youngliving does have fragrance but it is actual oil from the plants and not chemicals, I myself have Chemical Sensitivity which makes it hard for me to even go to church because of people wearing perfume and Scented Shampoo but the youngliving products don't bother me

Shaklee offers a sunscreen that is 100% fragrance free and allergy tested. My 3 yr old niece has extremely sensitive skin. She has never used this sunscreen, but does have other products that work very well for her. You can go to my parents website at malonebiz.com to read all the specifics for their sunscreen. Just type "sunscreen" in the search box. When the page pulls up, click on the item and then look toward the bottom of the new page. There is an option that will allow you to read the label on the bottle. My mom's contact info. is also on there if you have any questions for her. I hope this helps and you find something that will work well for you daughter so she can enjoy the summer.

Try Soothing Naturals by Johnson & Johnson. My daughter has been using this particular brand for a year now. My granddaughter was allergic to many scented products. This is the only product that has worked.

Hope it works for your little one.

Hello, First of all I can help you get Arbonne. I sell it because it is a product that is good for you and really works. We have a fantastic sun screen for babies. I also have to say something about one of the other products mentioned by another mom for bugs staying off. Please read the back of the label, the one for bug repellent, it says that their product can take paint off of painted surfaces and with ruin varnish on varnished surfaces. You absolutely don't want to put a product like that on your children!!!. That is one thing that Arbonne has taught us.... read the labels. Arbonne is a little more expensive than what you can buy at retail stores but we have a 45 day money back guarantee and it takes very little of our product to work. I do agree with the mom about putting a dryer sheet on your childs clothing. By the way we have an entire line for babies, including hair and body wash, diaper rash cream, body lotion and much more. We are fragrance free, dye free, hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and have never been tested on animals or use any animal by products in anything we have. Please e-mail me if I can help you out. ____@____.com

Hey E.!
My youngest daughter will be two in June and has terrible eczema and very sensitive skin. Her skin breaks out when she is outside in the grass! However, over a year ago we went through several prescriptions of the hydocortisone. It would cause the swelling to go down and take some of the redness away but it never completely helped her skin.I had also tried the Aveeno and thought it was helping but I did not realize that there was something that could really make her skin look like nothing was wrong. That was until last summer I came across some of the most outstanding products that truly make her skin feel like that baby soft skin! The products have NO harsh ingredients in them and they are safe to use on a daily basis. I simply use the bath soap and lotion each day. The only time I have to use a cream on her is when she has been out in the grass and it only takes one application or so to get things back to normal. Again E. I have tried everything but there is nothing that has amazed me like what I am using now! It has made a huge difference in our lives. Plus you have to watch what you purchase at the stores because some of the ingredients can actually trigger her skin to breakout. so it does put my mind at ease knowing that I do not have to worry about any of that. I have changed everything in my home from my laundry detergent to my cleaners so that nothing will cause my little to have problems with her skin. Well please let me know if you would like some info on what I use and the price is very cost efficient too!!
Thanks

Hi E.,

I would also highly recommend Arbonne. I sell it also and it's the only product I trust and use on my kids!! ABC is what the baby products are called.

We have asthma/allergies, so I love that it works and is fragrance free!! The sunscreen is wonderful since you can use it on any age of the child!!

All of our products are botanically based. You can look at all of our products - at www.arbonne.com.

Good luck!! Sydne

Hi E.-

My daughter has eczema that flares in the summertime, and the ONLY sunscreen that doesn't make her cry is Blue Lizard Sensitive Skin formulation. It's a sunscreen from Australia where the regulations are MUCH more strict than here. My sister is a Nurse Practicioner in Dermatology and she says it's THE best sunscreen available. You can go to www.bluelizard.net and find a dermatologist's office in your area that sells it. It's a little more expensive, but for kids with eczema, it's good stuff!

Good luck!

I highly reccomend Arbonne. It is quit expensive but it works and is all natural. They have skin care products and sunscreen. As for the Mosquitoes-I used a dryer sheet pinned to the back of my son's shirt. It seemed to work. I also have heard of skin so soft. I never tried it though. Good Luck!

I have found, use and now represent a great line of all -natural, hypo-allergenic products that have been dermatologist as well as pediatric tested. My youngest daughter had similiar issues and these products worked for her. Since the skin is our largest organ, we do need to think about what we are putting on it since the products do get absorbed into our system. I will be happy to send you a few samples so that you can try the products. The baby sunscreen is water repellent and not water proof which just means that it does not use chemicals to keep the water off. Often times the chemicals in the water proof sunscreen can actually cause a burn that we think is because the sunscreen was not working or wasn't enough. My entire family uses the Arbonne sunscreen and all the products and we have for years.

We were told to use Cetaphil cream or bar cleanser for my daughter's skin.

As for sunblock, I'm allergic to anything but nutrogena sensitive skin--it is the only one on the market that is ONLY a physical sunblock...it has none of the oxy-whatevers in it that burn my skin.

As for bugs...there are several soybean oil products and you can always try the citronella bands they wear around their feet and ankles and give that a try...it's what we do for my neice and nephew...my daughter and I have never had a problem with bug sprays...even the scented ones...NEVER put more than 10% deet on a child under 8 though.

I have a 5 year-old son who has terrible eczema. I have tried every product on the block, and I have found that Clinique sunscreen does not irritate him. I have also used Arbonne products from the Baby Line. They have lotion, oil, body wash, diaper cream, and sunscreen. These products have also been successful for him, but you will have to find an Arbonne consultant to order these products. Good luck!!

P.S. I'm not sure about the bug spray. Maybe you could try Skin So Soft from Avon??

Eeek, I am so sorry, those are the worst. I have pretty sensitive skin too - I found they were aggravated mostly by the foods I ate (all my favorites too :{) I hear Skin So Soft (I think its an Avon product) is really good for battling bugs and being sensitive, but I dont know if its all-free. You can find a host of "do it yourself" bugspray recipes online, maybe you can concoct something out of ingereds. you know she doesnt respond to. I just found that Listerine sends em running, all you have to do is spray it in the area. I bought Badger sunblock for my girls because it got EWG's top rating - its made from all-natural products, but its pretty thick and herbal-smelling. Maybe she responds to a binder in the fragrance and not the actual fragrance itself? (My fiance did bio at college and lab work at a perfumery, so he knows all about the compounds and what they contain, if you wanna pick his brain sometime to narrow down the allergies I dont think he'd mind.) I hope this helps.

sometimes california baby has good stuff. also check out tom's of maine or burts' bees. our farmer's market in edmond had a lavender stick that kind of looked like deoderant the worked pretty well as a bug repellant, and my sensitive daughter could use it. she was even allergic to the dyes on her diaper.

My daughter is in the same boat! We have always had success with the NoAD brand of sunscreen. I don't think it says fragrence free or hypoallergenic, etc., but for some reason it is the only sunscreen she can tolerate every day in the summer. Now that she is older, she can tolerate other mild sunscreens as long as we shower them off that night. But the NOAD brand has always worked for us. Good luck!

Something I do is go to www.ewg.org and check the ingredients on products. This helps me make decisions on what to use in my home, especially with body care.

For my son I use Neways Generations because it has no toxins, no perfumes or fragrances at all so very little chance of allergic reaction for his bath products.

As for sun and bug repellants I suggest trying to go with essential oils so you can create your own. There are recipes online and books you can get from the library to help finding the right mixture for your needs. Essential oils can get pricey but I think they are well worth it.
