Seeking Single Adoptive Moms or Dads

I would really love to chat with single moms and/or dads who have adopted a child either infant or toddler. Am researching for daily routines, how you manage as a single parent, who is your support group, and anything you are willing to let me know. Whether good or bad I really need to know before making a decision to adopt a child as a single woman.

What can I do next?

Hi. I am not a single adoptive mom.. but I am an adoptive mom. I have many friends who are single and have adopted..mostly from Korea and China. We all have used Holt International.. they are great with all aspects of adoption.. they put you in touch with people in your area who have adopted - some may be single and some will be married. I felt this was a great resource.. they will introduce you to people who are at your stage.. so you won't be alone and some people who have already adopted... You can ask questions and feel free to talk to them openly about your concerns and questions. Go on the website.. look up Holt International Childrens services.. They have a blog page and lots of information. They have so many resources.. good luck. It will all work out.. I know how scared I was at first.. One question I had will I love this baby... my answer was always yes yes yes. I have two wonderful Korean born children who I love with all my heart. They mean the world to me. I am truely blessed each and every day. Good luck.. if you ever want to chat.. [email protected]____.com A. H. in NJ.

Hi L.,
Although I'm not an adoptive mom, I'm a single Mom by choice and was also 37 when I ultimately made the decision to go forward. Please contact me privately if you'd like to discuss further. I wish you all the best!

Hello L.,
I am only just in the process now of adopting a child internationally, but I have a good resource for you. It's called Single Mothers by Choice. They have live support meetings as well as a couple of Yahoo! groups you can join to read about others' experiences or ask your own questions. There are local chapters (I'm in New York City) as well as groups specific to adoption. It is very valuable and I've met some great women this way. It is for women at all stages, from 'thinkers' such as yourself to moms of many years.
Just type Single Mothers by Choice into your browser (Explorer, Safari, Foxfire) and it will be the first hit.
Best of luck!
S.
