Seeking Referrals to a Female Doctor for Pregnancy Check Ups and Delivery

I am not to comfortable with male doctors when it comes to labor and delivery and pregnancy check ups. I am looking for a female doctor that is available for evening appointments in my area (South Saint Paul). Our last pregnancy, we had to commute to Eagan to see a WONDERFUL doctor, but the wait was at least 2 hours each time to see her.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Knid Regards,
Savannah

Dr. Guselle at Bloomington-Lake Clinic (there's three locations in the twin cities). Shes a family doctor, but has four kids and is so sweet. She's cool, too, and wears funky glasses and matches her nail polish to her outfits and is seriously the biggest blessing of a doctor I could have ever found for my family. My husband goes to her and he doesn't even like female doctors (for the same reason you don't like male for certain things). I don't know about eve. appts, though, but she is definitely worth finding a substitute for your business for the appt.

If that is the Mary the Woodbury clinic I've heard good things about her and she is the head midwife. She seemed very obtimistic about me being able to deliver vbac. I ended up sticking with my infertility/OB clinic Comprehensive Healthcare for Women but the only appt. past 4 is with a male doc. You may want to check out Woodwinds or Adofis and Toppin (spelling?) above Woodwinds to see if they will have evening appt. I think late appts. are hard to find. Good luck!

Not sure if you'd be open to seeing a nurse midwife, instead of an MD, but I really liked mine. Her name is Mary Skorzceski and I go to Health Partners Region's Health Clinic for Women. It's an all-female practice, so there are woman MD's there, too. I saw Dr. Jennifer Peoples for one appointment, not about pregnancy, and I liked her. I never had to wait 2 hours for my appointment. Usually only about 5 minutes.

The clinic delivers at Region's in St. Paul (close to S. St. Paul) or Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis. The only tricky thing is that you may or may not see the same midwife for your delivery. They have several on staff, and when you deliver you just see whoever is on duty. (I went through 3 during my 30 hour labor!) They recommend that you try to see as many midwives for your prenatal visits as possible, so that you're comfortable with whoever does the delivery. I saw all the midwives at the clinic, but I still ended up being delivered by one I didn't know. But it was ok. Mary was on duty the next day and stopped in to check on me in my room. She's awesome!!!

Good luck! And congratulations!!

Hi Savannah,

I moved to MN a year ago and was looking for the same thing since I was pregnant at the time and had a beautiful boy in Feb. If you are not comfortable with male OBGYNs then you want to find a group that had all women since your doctor may not be on call at the time of your delivery. I looked around the twin cities and there weren't many all women practices but I found a few (although they may not be very close to you). I first went to Partners OBGYN in Maplewood which was very good and had all female docs but then I switched to Adefris and Toppin in Woodbury since I eventually moved there. There are 3 docs in the Adefris and Toppin practice that are great. I met all 3 but had Adefris deliver my baby. You won't have to wait 2 hours for an appt but I am not sure about evening hours. They also deliver at Woodwinds hospital.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
