Seeking Recommendations for Good, Portable Highchair/booster Seat

Hi, I have a 14 month old son and use a regular high chair at home with him. I am looking for something for use at the grandparents' houses. They don't really want a high chair, so we tried one of those clip on ones that is supposed to adjust to different tables. I won't bore you with the details, but it doesn't really fit either of their tables. They just bought the Saftey First Snack and Go booster seat. My husband and I feel like it doesn't secure well to the chair and the tray barely fits over my son's lap (and he is small for his age!) I prefer a seat that has its own tray so that he can feed himself. Any one have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We just bought our 9 month old twins...the "Safety 1st 5 Recline and Grow 5 Stage Booster Seat" from Babies R Us for at home use and on the go. We love it!!! And the girls have more range of motion in reaching their food than a traditional highchair. I like that it is secure to the chair that we place it on...it has a back strap and a bottom strap. The tray fits snug on the seat and has three diff positions it can be in, depending on how big your child is. We have it on #3 at the moment because our girls are so tiny, and it fits them really securely! We could not be happier with all the adjustments it has...something we can use for years to come! We have even taken it with us to eat at restaurants...like Fudruckers and it works great there.

I had a Babee-Tenda feeding table/chair for my sons. It is approximately nine years old and we are still using it as a table. The chair is inside the table and is very sturdy. When not in use, it can slide under the dining room table. I thought it collapsed easily and would take it to family functions. As the child grows older, the chair can be removed and two children chairs added. It looks like a cute table set. Mine has been virtually indestructible. The chairs are also amazing. I still have both of mine and my mom uses one of them as a bath chair. You can check out the feeding chair at babee tenda's website. I don't know how much you want to pay, or if this would suit your needs, but I absolutely loved mine. As I stated earlier, the table is nine years old and saw two babies! I would never use anything else. I hope you find what is needed for your family. Best wishes!

I recommend the high schir that straps to a chair. You can get this from Babies R us. It reclines and comes with a tray. It is a high chair that can be used for any stage child. (infant on up) It is a space Saver chair. So far we love it!

We LOVE our booster seat. It fits on any chair and has a self feeding tray. It's the rainforest booster and it even has a play center that fits on top of the tray. Great for restaurants too. I think it's $32. They have some for less without the play tray. Got it at Babies R Us, but I think Target has them too. We never even had a high chair. Went straight from Bumbo to Booster. Love it!

get a bumbo seat. You can get them at target. I still use it and my daughter is 3. I love it and if you are cooking you put them right next to you on the counter... not safe if you aren't supervising at all times.
anyway, i never had a problem with it and my daughter never got out of it.

When my babies were little, I purchased a portable booster. I can't remember the name brand, but I got it at walmart and it was plastic, blue, yellow and I think red. It came with a plastic tray and the seat, seatbelt type, fastened to any chair. It was around 15 dollars and folded up nicely and easy to clean. You can just use the booster and sit at the table or you can attach the tray. We took it everywhere. (memories)

We never bought a traditional high chair. We use the Space Saver High Chair from Fisher Price. You just have to strap it to the base and back of a regular kitchen chair. Our son started sitting/laying in it at about 3 months (it has 3 adjustabel positions). We've never had any problems with it. When our son was small we took it with us whenever we traveled. We're pregnant with our second now, and plan on using the same one for the new baby.

I have used the safety 1st for 3 of my kids and I found that I kept coming back to the safety first boosters. I have at one time used a Bumbo and and a Bebe Pod... which were both great. If your looking for something to secure to the chair then go with a saftey first or something like it. Otherwise the bumbo or pod is great.

Currently my 4th kid started out with the bumbo and later switched to a pod. He disliked sitting in it after a while and instead likes to sit in the middle of the table - so to help him feel more like a big boy we found a wooden chair that was for a toddler/ baby that came right up to the table.
