my 10 1/2 month old baby boy is beginning to "cruise" along furniture and when holding on to our hands. any suggestions on great quality shoes to buy him? our house has wool carpeting throughout, so non-skid is not an issue, although i realize i will need non-skid for our outings.

What can I do next?

For this age we used pedi peds. You can get them at Nordstrom. They are definitely a transition shoe while he is getting comfortable to walking, but they were great.

Hi L.,
I have always had foot issues. I am pigeon toed and wore corrective leather shoes for my first 7 years. Slowly I was transitioned into tennis shoes. I never wore a brace, why I don't know, but it made no difference because as an adult I am still pigeon toed. So I had a lot of questions for the PED about shoes and checking to be sure my daughter was walking straight. At the same time I was seeing a Pediatrist and Orthopedic Surgeon and asked both of them to take a look at her feet and what shoes to put her in. They all said tennis shoes were fine. That is all I have put her in and she is fine at 3 YO.

Hi L.,

My son is 11 months old and I was in the same situation. We tried Pedipeds and the See Kai Run.. However- they were too flimsy and would never stay on. What I have found that is great- is a pair of Ecco lace up boot type shoe. They go with everything and are very light! They also are very durable- the top is covered with rubber so that when he is crawling around- they don't get destroyed. He can't take them off and doesn't mind having them on at all. I found Nordstom's has a great selection- and they were on sale! Good Luck- I really like the Ecco brand!

There is a brand that someone turned me on to called See Kai Run, that I just love, so does my 15 month old! They make really nice beginer walking shoes, you can google See Kai Run. They sell this brand at Nordstrom, but if you shop online there is a much bigger selection. Hope this helps!

Hi L.

I always got my girls stride rite shoes. I don't know where there is a store around you. Go on line. There a little expensive but well worth it. The employees there also fit your child for the shoes.
Good luck

My vote is Stride Rite. Easily available at malls and Nordstrom. My kids only wear Stride Rite :)

Hi L.-
I have a 19month old and I have tried many shoes. When she was an infant, we used Robeez and Pedipeds. We loved the Pedipeds because they are so comfortable for them. The Robeez are cute also, but with hardwood floors, they have no traction and my daughter has taken a fall or 2 on those.

We still use the pedipeds...and the stride rite. I ahve purchased them both from consignement stores and from ebay. A lot less inexpensive than buying them new because they also wear them less...

I recommend the Pedipeds because they are not heavy...
