I am looking for a professional photographer to take an outdoor/fall portrait of my family at a local park (San Jose/WG/Los Gatos). I am relatively new to the area and have only had my children photographed at school, sports & the picture people since we have been here. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated....we are looking for a quality canvas photo in a large size but don't want to pay mega$$ but we are willing to invest a little more than usual to capture our family (while the kids still have their front teeth)! Also any comments about timing would be great...My children are 6 yrs, 4.5 yrs and 16 months old now and I thought this would be a good time to capture our young family!

Hi J., we have always used Jim Nelson photography. . .they did our wedding and now do all of our family portraits. They do great location shots. There are 3 shots.
They are also picky about the shots they will let you blow up to that size. We had some GREAT shots from one sitting and when they blew them up to the size you're talking about, the boys' heads were moving just enough that it showed. They reshot the pictures without cost to us and we chose all over again.
I HIGHLY recommend them!! Oh, I would also time it so that you're either early enough before your 16 month old's nap or after so that the kids are fresh and in good moods.

We just had a photographer take family photos for our Las Madres group at a LG park this past weekend. (our first professional photos ever with our 3 yr old son) The photographer's name is Richel Lavette (____@____.com) Phone: ###-###-####. She was great. Very relaxed and good with our son. Her husband was with her helping out and he was very nice and great with our son too. We have yet to see our photos other than looking on her camera after taking some of them and they looked good. What I liked about the pics I saw of hers that were posted to our LM site is they were not stiff/posed looking but natural, relaxed and fun. She took pictures of the three of us in different poses, each of us alone with our son and of us alone together and our son alone. It was a very enjoyable experience. She seem also reasonably priced, compared to the photographer who was taking our preschool pics. I would definitely check her out.
