Seeking Preschool Suggestions Around Rocklin/Roseville Area

Hi, if you are willing to travel a little bit, I'd recommend Lincoln Learning Tree Preschool. It is in Twelve Bridges area of Lincoln, but very close to Whitney High. My daugher loves it there and academics are emphasized. It is a small in home preshool. The teacher is actually credentialed which I like, since most preschool teachers just have a few community college credits. Anyway, good luck with your decision and welcome to Rocklin! I have to highly recommend Sunrise Montessori in Roseville. My son has been there for two years and he is happy and receiving a well rounded education. I love the philosophy of "help me do it myself" that is the foundation of the Montessori program. As a middle school teacher in Rocklin, I appreciate how Montessori teaches the children how to focus on a "job" independently get it out and put it away. I also like the positive discipline they use with the children. I teach science so I was blown away when my son started pointing to different bones in his body and using the scientific name for them: cranium, mandible, phylanges, etc... Not that I want to push my son into academics, but I like how the children work at their own level and get a lot of choice rather than having to do everything with everyone else in the class.

I have great experiences with two different preschools in the area. This is our daughter's second year at Adventure Christian Preschool and we love it. The teachers and staff are loving and they are very competent and organized. Academics are emphasized and the kids are definately ready to go by the time they get to Kinder. They also have a nice/fun outdoor play area. Our son goes to Loomis Community Preschool and this is also a great school. This school is a parent coop school and is more play based or child lead (at least the class we are in). The teacher is great and the facilities are wonderful. I have enjoyed being able to have hands on involvement in his school day. Good luck in your search!

Welcome to Rocklin!! I'm fairly new to the area as well and my daughter was attending La Petite in Sacramento until it closed down a few months ago (she's only 2 and is now at an in-home daycare with 2 of the teachers from that school).
My best friend has her 2 kids at Kindercare on Fairway and loves it there. They have a good curriculum and great teachers/staff. I've heard really good things about the preschool at Adventure Christian Church as well.

Our son went to Phoenix Schools in Roseville. We chose it on the recommendation of a friend and our impressions after visiting the school. We really liked the more structured format of the day for our son (he has ADHD and thrives on structure) and the fact that they weren't intimidated by children with special needs like ours. Well rounded curriculum with arts, science, math, Spanish, computer time. The teachers were really great at keeping us informed about how our son was doing and he was really happy there.

I haven't heard of a preschool fair in our area before, but it's possible one does exist.

I checked out a few preschools last year for my daughter and ended up choosing the Rocklin preschool that the city provides. I chose it because I wanted a more developmental approach (learning through play, following routine, lots of hands on activities) versus a highly academic approach. She's going to be in school for the next 18 years (plus college!) so I didn't want her sitting in desks, doing lots of worksheets at 5 years old. There's plenty of time for that! I don't think she would have done well in that kind of environment for her first introduction to school. I wanted her to LOVE school from the beginning and not despise it. I just wanted her to get used to the structure of school, following directions, being able to choose from different station activities, etc. She learned everything she needed to in order to be ready for kindergarten. She's in kindergarten at Rock Creek Elementary now and is doing fantastic! She loves it. I made the right choice based on my child's temperament, strengths/weaknesses, activity level so choose what you think would be best for who your child is. If he/she has a long attention span and can sit for longer periods of time, you may choose a more academic intensive program. If not, or you're not as concerned about giving your child a "one up" before he/she starts kindergarten, maybe go for a more developmental approach. Different school programs work well for different children. Good luck!
