I am looking into finding a playgrou for my son who is turning 1 this month. I am a sahm and our families live in other states. I want my son to be around other people/kids more frequently right now its mostly just he and I all day. I plan on teaching him from home for preschool so finding something where he can socialize with other children is very important to us. I am looking for something in the Plano/Allen/Mckinney area. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
J.

When I had my first son we met a lot of moms through activities that I signed him up with. I would have to say My Gym was the best and we still have a playgroup from that group. You can also look into your local MOPS group (look online), but I warn you, the groups tend to be big.

Good luck!!

Hi, J.!
My name is K., and I coordinate a playgroup in the McKinney/Allen/Frisco/Plano area. We normally meet on Thursday or Friday mornings for outings such as the park, lunch together, mall play areas, petting zoos, etc. We also have frequent Moms' Nights Out, Dads' Nights Out, Couples Nights Out and holiday parties. Our group is called Moms' Fellowship, and it is designed to meet the social needs of mommies and their children. Most of the children in our group range from 1-3 years, although we also have had a sudden influx of newborns! Please feel free to contact me for more info at ____@____.com. I am a SAHM of 2 year old, Nathan, with another blessing due 12/15.

There are several groups on meetup.com. Two that I know of are Frisco & Collin County neighbors/mommies and The Plano/Frisco/Allen Moms Meetup Group. There might be other groups that will also work for you. Even though it's not a playgroup, I thought I would also mention that the Plano libraries have a storytime at 10:15am. It is for children birth-24 months. You can check their website for which location has it on which day. I have been to a few of them with my little girl and we had fun. She really enjoys being around the other kids.

As I have just moved to Plano and have no family in the area, I found myself in a similar situation. I joined Far North Dallas Early Childhood PTA (FNDECPTA). I is great! We have playgroups assigned according to age and availablity (there is a 1-2 yr. old playgroup that meets on Wednesday mornings..the one we are in). There are moms nights out, couple parties, and parties for the whole family. We also have a children's activity for everyone once a month. Also once a month we have meetings (with free childcare), where we have a specific speaker come in and talk about topics that we have previously voted on. For example, this months speaker was on how do develop creative children. Another one I know is on marriage enrichment. Check it out at www.fndecpta.org. If you want more info, please contact me and I would love for you to come and check it out.
