My husband and I are looking for a new pediatrician for our 10 month old son. We do not see eye to eye with our current one. He told us it is time to wean our son (he is breastfed). I do not want to wean him until he is at least one year old. If anyone has some suggestions that would be great - thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a wonderful pediatrician in Oldsmar right behind Super wal-mart. They are so friendly and don't make you wait long at appointments. I don't have there number right now, my 5 month old is sleeping on my chest right now and I can't really get up but feel free to email me at ____@____.com if it is not too far from you. They are an awesome group of pediatricians.

I use North Pinellas Childrens Medical Center. They have an office on Countryway just north of Linebaugh. My son is now 21 months and was premature. We have delt with Reflux, heart murmurs, croup, and asthma. They have always been very helpful and have always led us in the right direction. Their Palm Harbor office is even open on the weekends. The nursing staff is great, and the physicians call as soon as test results come in. We love them. Good luck.

HI E.,
My pediatrician has an office in Oldsmar behind the Super Walmart on Pine, they are a great group of doctors and God bless them, they are open on Saturdays and Sundays too which is when my little one seems to get sick. Myrtle Ave. Pediatricians is the name, I'm pretty sure Westchase is just down the road on Forest Lakes.
As far as weaning, my sister in law went by the guidelines of the World Health Organization and breastfed her kids until they were 3 years old. I personally don't understand it but it's a personal choice so I don't offer my opinion one way or the other. Did your dr. mean wean as in start adding foods to the baby's diet? Or did he mean wean as in, get ready to stop altogether? Too bad you all couldn't have discussed it and worked it out!
Best of luck to you.

Hello E..

I see Dr. Demery at Internal Medicine & Pediatrics of Tampa Bay. He is a younger guy and their practice is a family doctor not just ped's, which I love as he's seen my husband!
He seems to have passion for what he does and I really like him. They're located right on Sheldon in that complex next to Burger King and across the street from Wellspring church.

my children go to Gulf Coast Pediatrics and Family. this is a wonderful practice with fantastic nurses and an ARNP whose name is Teresa Valdes. their office is located behing the Citrus Park Mall off of Gunn Hwy and Ehrlich Rd. their phone number is ###-###-####. we have had nothing but positive experiences with this practice and they are even able to draw blood if need be so that you do not have to go and wait at another clinic to have this done. Good Luck. if you have any questions regarding this practice please let me know.

Are you comfortable saying who it is you don't see eye to eye with so we can stay clear? (Or at least the practice)

Personally, I'm not crazy about Dr. McElroy. Nothing against her - the problem is probably with the practice, but when my first was born (5 yrs. ago), the hospital had to keep calling her to get her to come and check the baby then when we went to visit the office, we had to wait forever on both ocassions. After that, my neighbor referred me to Pediatric Healthcare Alliance (PHA) on Citrus Park Dr. The Drs. and staff are so friendly. I had to keep buggging Healthpoint to transfer my file and ended up having to pick it up from them. I've been with PHA ever since (I have 3 kids now). Things might have changed at WC Pediatrics since then but every now & then I still hear negative things about soem Drs. and the office. PHA is farther but worth the drive for me. I have also heard good things about North Pinellas Medical Center (already mentioned here).

There is a pediatrician in Palm Harbor/ Countryside you might try. Her name is Danuta Jackson-Curtis. Very pro breastfeeding. Good for you for sticking to your guns. The World Health Organization says 2 years and the AAP says a full year.

Good luck,

Stefan
