Hello everyone. I'm new to MamaSource and am expecting my first in November. Anyone have any suggestions on a pediatrician in northwest Austin? Am seeking someone/practice who is also available after hours in case of after hours questions (I'm told things usually happen after hours!). Anything else I should be looking for in a pediatrician? Thanks!

Dr. Juan Guerrerro at Austin Diagnostic Clinic. My 18-year old was crushed when she learned that it was time to move on. He is very gentle.

Treehouse Pediatrics is awesome! I take both of my daughters there. I love Dr. Chang. He's wonderful! It's on 620, just north east of Cornerwood.

We LOVE Dr. Ross Prochnow with Austin Regional Clinic. He is located at Braker and 183 (in the same shopping center as HEB). We have seen all the doctors in the practice with him and they are fantastic. They also have an after hours location at Far West and Mopac that we have used on several occasions and it's great.

I have used Dr. Evelyn Spencer. She just opened a new practice, which we followed her to, on Jollyville Rd just south of Duval. The practice is called Jollyville Pediatrics. My son fell and hit his head pretty hard. I called in the middle of the day and opted to not take him in after all. Dr. Spencer called me that night (about 7pm) just to check on him. We love her and everyone at the practice is very nice.

Her office number is ###-###-####.

Best of luck!

Hill Country Pediatrics on 2222 (River Place area). I love all three of the women pediatricians in the practice! They are wonderful, caring doctors. They do have a number to call after hours for emergencies and questions. Their # is ###-###-####. Before my 1st baby was born, I visited a couple of potential offices.

I've taken both my kids to Dr Mara Tache with North Austin Medical Center Pediatrics since birth. She's awesome. There's several drs in the practice, and we've seen them all over time. The staff is great, nurses are sweet, and my kids love going there to see everyone. ###-###-####

I would recommend Mary Marvin Johnson and her group Northwest Pediatrics. They are on Seton Center Blvd behind Seton Northwest. My children see her and have seen several doctors in the group and each has always been friendly and professional. One of the best things about this office is that their morning hours are walk in, so when your child is sick you don't have to wait for an appointment in the afternoon. They also have Saturday sick clinic hours as well.

I can make two recommendations depending on your preference and where you live. I personally go to Christine Eady, DO who is in NW Austin off 620, btwn Parmer and I35. She's with Cornerwood Family Medicine. She's a family practitioner, but unless your baby has serious health issues, there's no reason to HAVE to see a pedi. Dr. Eady is a mom herself, has a great rapport with moms and kids and babies. She's a super BF supporter as well. We have seen her for years, I refer lots of my clients to her and they have all been happy. (I am a birth doula)

My second recommendation is Dr. Daniel Terwelp, who is a pedi. He's off Far West and Mopac. I have never met him, but lots of my clients have gone to him and they all rave about him.

Good luck!

Hi, L.!

I take my kids to Lone Star Pediatrics. The practice is small (which works well for us)--2 pediatricians and 1 nurse practitioner. They have two offices--one at 620 (near Hatch lane) and the main office is just south of Parmer and Mopac, off the southbound frontage road.

We primarily see Dr. Courtney Dudley, but both doctors are very friendly, able to answer questions and take lots of time with us. Also, they have the waiting room divided into two areas--one for well kids and one for sick kids, both areas have toys.

Hope that helps!

My son has a great pediatrician! His name is Dr. Chris Spencer. He is with ARC Cedar Park. If you go North on 183 (not the toll road), it's just South of 1431. He used to be at Braker & 183 then he moved out there. We tried a different doctor so we wouldn't have to make the drive. Our experiences had us going back to him. ARC does have an after hours clinic at Far West & Mopac. If you choose any doctor within ARC you can use the after hours clinic. You may or may not get your doctor when you go there. All of the doctors rotate. I can tell you that Dr. Spencer has been great any time my son has been sick. I took him in one weekend, we lucked out & saw Dr. Spencer. All of the signs pointed to a cold except for the high fever that my son had for a few days. So Dr. Spencer did a blood test which indicated possible pneumonia. So he did an x-ray. Sure enough my son had pneumonia. I know that some of the doctors I've seen for myself would've said it's a cold, he'll get over it. He's always been good about those kinds of things. He will find and give you answers. He's also good about answering the million questions you have about your baby as he/she gets older. He will take the time to talk to you about any & all questions & concerns you may have. I highly reccomend calling Dr. Spencer at ###-###-####.

By the way, Congrats on the baby! I'm expecting my second in November.

Kelly Thorstad and her practice, Lonestar Pediatrics, is great! We had to take my daughter to a specialist and he commented that Dr. Thorstad is one of the best pediatricians in Austin. Her nurse practitioner, Gwen Collmann, is my absolute favorite! She has called me numerous times after hours to check up on my kids when we had some issues going on. They have an office at Parmer and Mopac as well as one on 620. The first Monday of each month from 5:30-6:30 you can go meet them, learn about the practice and ask questions. Phone #: 833-PEDI(7334). My son's doctor is Dr. Worrel at North Austin Medical Center. It is at Mopac and almost Parmer. It sits just right before Parmer lane. It's nice there because they accept almost all insurances and they have an after hours nurse you can call for questions. The medical center also has just about any kind of services you can think from family dr to maternity, to emergency and even specilist. It's nice to have everything in one. There are other pediatrician there but we have been with this dr since my son was born and he's almost 7. I like that they give all sorts of information even what to expect at different ages. Good Luck

We go to Dr. Brooks Booker at ARC Anderson Mill. I highly recommend him. He's just great - can't say enough nice things, really puts you at ease and goes the extra mile with the kids. They actually like to go to the doctor! They draw him pictures. He's very funny, a great listener, and will also take extra time to help with insurance claims if there are special needs.

ARC Farwest/Mopac has after hours and weekend appointments available (for sick visits). Our ped there is Dr. Elizabeth Knapp and we LOVE her, but we often see other peds there when after hours or sick visits. I like that flexibility (not having to wait for an appt with your doctor if baby is sick). The ped that came to the hospital to check my baby out from ARC was also very nice - Dr. Gonzalez, I believe. Good luck!

We use Dr. Cohen at Cedar Park Pediatrics. It is HIS practice, and as of yet he is the only pediatrician there, but they are WONDERFUL! We met him through our parenting class at our hospital and I love him. He's experienced, but is young enough that he really knows how to make you comfortable. They are NEVER busy and don't have long waits. And, they have an after-hours triage service (for a small fee) and are open on Saturdays. The nurses are wonderful...it's just a great office and I am so glad to have found him! You can check him out at babydoctorjoe.com. Hope that helps some.

Might be too far north for you, but we commute to them because we love them. Treehouse Pediatrics on 620 near Round Rock Hospital. We've had very positive experiences with all pediatricians onsite. treehousepedi.com

I just moved to Leander/Cedar Park area. Don't know if that is near you or not, but I did find a great pediatrition for my 3-yr-old. They have 2 pediatritions and 2 family practice docs there so if you don't like one or can't get into one there is always somebody else there to see. Here is the link:http://www.cedarparkdoctors.com/

It is off of 183 S & Cypress Creek in Cedar Park. I have seen Dr. Alforo ( i think that is the spelling as she is not on their website)and she was very friendly and my daughter loved her.

I've also been to see Dr. King myself so if you're sick too you can all go to the same place.

Plus their physicians are on call 24/7! Hope this helps!

Hi L. -

http://www.lonestarpediatrics.medem.com

We interviewed Dr. Thorstad adn Gwen when I was still pregnant w/my son (now 4 yrs). We really liked the practice and even the new Dr. (Dr. Dudley). They have 2 offices one of them is in Cedar Park. Check out the web site. I'm fairly sure they still do free interviews for expecting parents... much better then the one Dr. interview I had to pay for and ended up not using him!

Good luck!

We use Trevor Turner but he is in RR on 620. His wife, Kelly Thorstad, is also great-she saw my son after he was born because Dr. Turner didn't have privileges at my hospital.
