Hi Mom's! I am just moving to Boulder from Chicago with my husband and 5 year old son. He will be starting kindergarten and I need to take him in for his school check-up. I would love to hear from other Mom's about their experiences and recommendations for a pediatrician. We are looking for a doctor who has a more natural approach to medicine. Thanks for any tips!

We go to the Boulder Medical Center Pediatrics at Foothills ###-###-####)...and see Dr. Legare. I don't think she is accepting new clients (b/c she is part time) but she splits time with Dr. Lafferty (who is great) and I have heard great things about each Dr. in the practice...

Hope this is helpful...

Go to Centennial Valley Pediatrics, THEY ARE INCREDIBLE there, it is off of So Boulder Road in Louisville, only a quick drive from Boulder. They have a great staff, both have been with my kids since birth. They are more then willing to answer questions over the phone if uncertain if a visit is needed. After hours they are networked with Childrens Hospital. They get you in for visits quickly, can see you that day if it is needed and just are great. There are several Drs there that I really like Evelyn Swanson, Micheal Wright are two of our favorites there. I have my son seeing a man for a Dr and my daughter a woman so as they get older they can relate to them better. Dr Wright is just fantastic, I cannot say enough good things. They don't rush to prescribe on things, really talk to you about what is going on and are GREAT WITH KIDS!

Hi V.,

While I've never used him as my own pediatrician (because I have Kaiser insurance), Dr. Roy Steinbeck with Mindful Pediatrics is great! He has hosted vaccination talks and seems to have a natural approach to pediatrics. He also has two young children. I think his website is www.mindfulpediatrics.com

Good luck!

Hi V.,

I have the best pediatrician in the whole world!!! The doctor and staff treat my girls - and me and my husband - like family - EVERY time we visit or call. You feel as though you are their only patient. Best of all when you call into the office at 3:00 am worried about your child - the doctor himself usually answers the phone. Yes, a doctor that answers his own phone. My husband and I feel very blessed to have found Dr. Nelson in Louisville.

Their approach to medicine is always safer than sorry. They are always available to have your kids come in to be seen. I have NEVER in 5 years and two kids later been told we can't fit you in. They have stayed late if necessary and even once Dr. Nelson had me meet him in the office on Sunday because he was concerned with the baby's cold. On a couple of seperate occassions when the girls were sick, he has called the house to check on their conditions.

I was with a very good pediatrician when my first was born, however I found the staff to be rude and very unaccomodating to me as a new Mom. As luck would have it, my husband found Dr. Nelson right upstairs from this other doctor - lucky us!!!

Also, my 5 year old just had her check-up. It was tough on her because the schools added a new shot so she ended up getting 3. (She got one shot at 4, when most kids usually skip that age. This is so she will have one less shot at age 5.) At age 5, it is the toughest of all to get shots because of their age. However, Brenda is the best at giving shots and is very thorough about checking the medicines.

My children love going to the doctor, strange as it sounds. They love getting popsicles, toys and playing with Dr. Nelson's bubbles. They always have hugs for the staff and the staff always gives hugs back.

Dr. Kristen van Konynenburg is the best doctor I have ever come across. She is a family doctor and has recently studied homeopathy. My husband and I switched practices imediately upon meeting her when our kiddo was new because we found her to be so respectful and grounded in her approach. Dr. van K's office is part of the Boulder Medical Center -- ###-###-####

Natural approach, I've heard Dr. Steinbock is great. We use Dr. Beuf at the Pediatric Center at the Boulder COmmunity Hospital Foothills campus. I'd recommend you to go to BoulderRockNMoms yahoogroup and search the archives or post .. it's a list with over 1000 moms on it.

Boulder Medical Center -- Foothills. Dr. Fries is wonderful, in fact the entire office is great! They have a nurse line and they have never turned us away for an appointment. They came highly recommended when I was pregnant with my second -- my first was born in WA and I needed a pediatrician in house (I delievered at Boulder Community Hospital on Arapahoe). I wanted a doctor in house because I tend to have early babies and wanted a ped who was with my son since birth and located close for questions. He visited my second son every day we were in the NICU (7days) and has called to make sure everything was good -- He is attentive, informative, educational and has a good bedside manner. He is very pro vaccinations and is coming to speak at my MOPS group (Mother's of Preschoolers) in October. Just google - Dr. Stephen Fries in Boulder and you can find out more about the medical group. I haven't encountered a rude, or nasty person there. Oh, one more thing -- they try to seperate the sick kids appt. and the healthy kid appts. of ocurse, some overlap, but they do clean the toys and have seperate rooms for both, which is really nice!

Go to Helios Integrated Medicine. Pierre Brunschwig is a great doctor for children. He is an MD who practices homeopathy. This is a great practice!
