We are moving to Garfield Hts in a few weeks and I need a new doctor for Maria and one on the way. I am also looking for a good OB-I love my current doctor and am willing to drive to Akron to see her, but would be interested in meeting someone in the area and having a Hospital closer to home than akron general.. Do you have any experiences with Marymount hospital or Metro? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I've heard nothing but great things about Dr. Galun and the others in his office. You can't go wrong with Hillcrest and it's not too far..I know many ppl that went there and LOVED it.

Next, I couldn't DISAGREE more with the first poster. My OB/GYN that delivered my dd stopped doing OB for a while and I had to get a new dr. for my son. I heard about South Suburbon and since they had a Twinsburg office ( which is close to me in northern Summit county), I went. It was HORRIBLE!!! Dr. Farinacci wasn't very nice, could not remember me from one visit to the next and we spent the first 10 minutes of each appt. asking the same questions over and over again. I thought he was having "a bad day" here and there and let it go since I didn't know where else to go. Fast forward to before my son was born. The week before I was due, I was 3cm and he said "If you don't deliver by next week, we'll induce on Friday", I said great! We set up for a sitter for my dd and my dh to get off work (NOT easy, he's a police officer). The following Thurday, I was a 4cm and everything was FINE. He checked me and left the room, I thought something was wrong. He came back in and said he don't want to wait till the next day and that he called the hospital and they are waiting for me and I was to deliver THAT DAY. I had no sitter for my dd and my dh was working. I told him all this and he said, "I called the hospital and they are waiting, you'll just have to make the calls to get arrangements made". My dh was furious but since he did this, we thought something was wrong so we took our dd to the hospital with us and off we went.
Guess what?? He NEVER showed up to deliver me, he sent the office midwife would I could NOT stand. She was very rude during my delivery and gave me an episiotomy WITHOUT my consent for no reason. When my son was here, and she was leaving the room, she said "when your epi wears off, your stitches will hurt some". My dh said "WHAT F'ING STICHES??". She said that I was taking too long to push and she wanted to deliver. I only pushed for 15 minutes and there was NOTHING wrong with my son...how fast should I have gone? I later found out that Dr. F sent me a day early on purpose so he didn't have to deliver me, since he don't deliver at Marymount on Thursdays. GGGRRRRR!!
The next day Dr. Farinacci showed up to do my son's circ (gee, how nice of him) and never came to my room to see how I was. I saw him my WHOLE pregnancy and he couldn't even give me the courtesy of a visit. My son's circ was botched to say the least and it looked HORRIBLE. I cried everytime I changed his diaper and my ped. just couldn't believe that a male dr. would do that to my son. After seeing the urologist a few times, we decided it was best to have it fixed at 10 months old. We hated putting him through that again but are sooo glad we did since it is soooooooooo much better and how it should be. When the urologist asked who did the circ and I said Dr. Farinacci, he said "I'm not surprised, my last 4 patients have come from him". Can you believe this?? That man shouldn't be practicing and for sure shouldn't be doing circs if he can't do it right!!
I went for my 6 week checkup and expected my annual pap since that's what happened after my dd and it had been over a year since my last one (july '04, had my son aug. '05, and 6 week check up was mid-sept. '05) and Dr. F said "I don't have time for you right now you'll have to come back another day". Needless to say...I NEVER WENT BACK THERE AGAIN!!! Since I'm not having anymore kids, I now go for my GYN stuff with the dr. that delivered my dd who is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! She's out of Akron but is so worth it. When I went back to her and told her what I went through, she was shocked to say the least. When I had my first appt., my son was just a few months old and she asked to see his circ, she cried right there in the office that another dr. would do such a botched job to a baby.
I have since filed two grieveances (sp?) against SS Women's Center...one against Dr. F..my treatment and what happened to my son and one against the midwife for the episiotomy against my wishes and her unsatisfactory treatment as well. Unfortuneately nothing has happened and they are free to act what ever way they wish to whoever they wish....but at least it's on record and other ppl know, my current dr and the urologist.
I tell everyone I know to STAY AWAY from that office and Dr. F. I hear Dr. Grossman who is also there is really nice...but not worth having to deal with the other two.

Sorry it got so long but I have to tell my experience when I hear about that office. If you don't want to go to Akron (I delivered at Akron General and LOVED it!!!) and had surgery at Akron City (Summa Health System, good experience)..then go with the other choice.

Good luck!

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I work in Garfield Heights and live in Aurora. My OBGYN is Dr. Stephen Galun. He has an office in Garfield at Marymount Hospital and an office in Solon. He is an absolutely wonderful doctor and surgeon! I love being in his care. He has a female partner if you prefer a woman. She is Dr. Hruby (also very friendly and caring).

Please let me know if you need a phone number for Dr. Galun.

Take care!

I moved from Garfield Heights almost two years ago and now live in Aurora, Ohio. I don't know too many doctors around the area but the pediatrician I use is Dr. Elizabeth Feighan ###-###-####), she has a few different offices (I go to the one in Chagrin Falls). There used to be an office around the Beachwood area (not sure if that is the right city?, but it was relatively close to Beachwood Mall.) I don't know if she is still working out of that office, but you can call to find out! Also, my OB/GYN is Dr. Robert Kiwi office is in Beachwood (next to Beachwood Mall). His # is ###-###-####. Now I don't know whether my doctors are accepting new patients, but maybe they can help!

He A.,
I was in Garfield when we had our son (he's 3 now). I went to South Suburban Women's Center (it's located at MaryMount). the number is ###-###-####. The Drs are amazing. Very caring and patient.
We also use Pediatricenter, which has an office in Garfield. (We go to Dr. Malinowski). I don't have the garfield number, just the Twinsburg one, but you could call and ask for it...they have 5 offices, total...###-###-####.
My son was delivered at Mary Mount and it was just a fabulous experience. We've moved since then, but when we have more kids, I'd like to still deliver the rest there, even though there are closer hospitals.
Good Luck!
M.

Hi, A.:

I live in northern Summit County but delivered both of my kids (2 1/2 and 15 mos) at Marymount. My OB was Dr. Galun. He has a practice with 2 other OB/GYNs, Dr. Hruby and Dr. Slotta (both women). They have an office at Marymount and one in Solon. They deliver at Marymount and Hillcrest. Dr. Galun delivered my daughter and I just love him. Very thorough, professional, and well-respected. He has delivered many of my nieces and nephews over the years. Dr. Slotta delivered my son and she was great. I delivered both babies naturally and both doctors were very supportive of my wishes. The labor and delivery nurses, on the other hand, were a little less accommodating initially. The postpartum nurses were great and the food wasn't half bad. Our pediatrician is in Fairlawn so I don't know about the ones in Garfield. The pediatricians who saw my kids at Marymount after they were born seemed nice and competent. I thought about delivering at AGMC for my 2nd baby but preferred Marymount because it was smaller, suburban, and Catholic, which was important to me. Take a tour of the labor and delivery floors and see what you think. Hopes this helps! Good luck to you!
