Seeking OB in Wilmington/Pike Creek Area

Hello, Mamas.

I'm hoping someone can recommend a great OB in Delaware. I'm pregnant with my 3rd child and have loved my current OB Dr. Maynard. Well, in October of last year her office merged with All About Women and I am extremely disappointed in their staff's combined lack of customer service. They have me scheduled for my 1st OB appt. during my 12th week b/c the person who usually meets with newly pregnant women is out for surgery. I'm 37 years old, this pregnancy was a complete surprise and I previously had to have a D&C in 2007 at my 14th week of pregnancy for lack of a fetal heartbeat. By the time they see me and get me scheduled for genetic testing I will obviously be beyond my 1st trimester. I've explained all of this to the scheduling staff (after waiting on hold for 10 minutes just to get to their voice mail system!) and they still refuse to budge on the appointment. Do anyone have any suggestions for offices that are maybe not so large and are more patient focused? Thanks a bunch.

What can I do next?

Wow- I go to All About Women and have not experienced the lack of respect that you have. I had all three of my children with their practice and besides the fact that they have what seems like TOO many patients, my care has always been great. Let me start by saying that the lady that you are waiting to meet is kinda a waste of time- especially to someone like you who is having your 3rd child. You will talk about diet, vitamins, meds you can take while prego, etc etc. And you will get you big back of literature, and vitamin samples and you will walk down the hall for blood work (at least I did). Anyway I do not see why they can't bend the rules for you and just let you schedule your appt with the DR and get in there NOW. Have you asked to talk to someone higher up or even a DR??? Insist on talking to someone else- the scheduling staff are obviously not listening to your worries. All that being said- I understand why you do not feel confident and comfortable with them now. Good luck and please know that I did have great experiences with several of the Drs and nurses and definitely loved delivering at Christiana. Good luck and I hope they change their tune!

Hi there! I have two boys, one born at Christiana (boo) and the other born at St. Francis hospital. With #1 I start at the Birth Center (which is across the street from STF) but transfered to Christiana after long back labor and no progress. From there I was put through the maternity-machine. My natural birth turned into everything I didn't want! I ended up having a c-section that now I think wasn't necessary. For #2 I wanted to VBAC. The STF Ob's were supportive and allowed me to do what I needed to do. Alas, I progressed just fine but the baby would NOT descend, so back for another section I went. I LOVED the St. Francis L&D/maternity care! All of the nurses were very kind and supportive of my efforts. The unit is nice with private rooms and state-of-the-art security. Dr. Stanley Wiercinski is my OB and I like him very much but you can't go worng with any of his partners: Dr. Petit, Dr. Cosgrove, and Dr. Leader (in order of how much I like them). Don't let the exterior fool you; St. Francis Hospital is the way to go - they truly CARE about your CARE!

Hi J.!

Dr. Nancy Fan is EXCELLENT! She has an office in the city and one in Omega (across from Christiana Hosp).

I used to go to Dr. Maynard too and Dr. Fan actually delivered my first child (as Dr. Maynard was not on call!). Anyway, I was so impressed with her so I went to her for my second child (which I had at 37!). She is in a much smaller office and I really had a great experience with her and her entire staff.

Hope this helps! And good luck!

I love Dr. Jose Picazo. He is wonderful as well as the staff. The address is 600 Christiana Medical Center Newark Delaware 19702 and the phone number is ###-###-####.

Not sure if this would be too far for you but thought I'd let you know just in case!

Good luck!!
