I am interested in starting my own in home daycare. I love children and know as a working Mom how hard it is to find and trust someone to leave your children with. I am just not sure how to get started or find the resources to know if financially I could do it. I would like to start this business to be home with my children and do somthing I find rewarding. Its scarry to leave a secure job and start your own business but its time to follow my heart. I want my children to look back and know that I did something that made me happy and kept me home with them while doing it. I would love to hear how other Mom's got started doing this?

What can I do next?

I used to do in home child care. It was a great experience and I loved being home with my own. You should contact your local Department of Human Services for licensing rules. Most states have a link on-line to provide the information needed for this purpose now. I know my first three children believe that benefited by my staying home and even though I am not doing home child care with these three I am home after school. I work my schedule around their needs. I felt as an older parent I did not have the energy to care for other children and have enough reserve to give my own what I gave my first three. Plus I wanted to be able to enjoy my grandchildren whenever I decided so being resposible for a sometimes 10 hour day with that responsibity just did not seem right for me now.

It is rewarding though and I miss it. I miss the messy work of art. I miss the expressions that a child has when they accomplish even the smallest task. Good luck. I know I did finacially fine with it. Even when my husband was not working we were fine.

Good luck.

Hi! I've been running a home daycare for 3 years now. I'm not really sure what state that you're in, but in my state the Health Department is responsible for daycare licensing. Figuring out whether or not you could afford to do it should be pretty simple. Find out what your allowable ratio is (here we can have 6 full timers and 3 before and after schoolers). Then, find out how much other daycares are charging. From there you can figure out how much you could make. My guess is that in order to have what you need, you would not have to have a lot of children. But it all depends on your own family budget.

I love this job and love staying home with my own children. It has allowed me to actually know my own children and to raise my own children. I've also been able to start homeschooling! This has been an amazing experience. Good luck!
