Seeking Moms' Group in Mount Prospect/Arlington Hgts/Des Plaines Areas

I love my son! Unfortunately, lately I've been feeling that maybe the all-encompassing love I have has blocked me off from making new friends & doing the things that I enjoy to do...just for me. I'd be thrilled to death to find a group of moms that can sympathize with my plight & have developed some way around it! My interests are reading, movies, art, crochet/knit/needle crafts, photography, glass lamp-working.

Thanks for any help!
K.

Hi K.

I belong to a group of parents in the NW suburbs called Parents who care (www.parentswhocare.org). We have a monthly bookclub, a parents night out, and a hobby night, so parents can get out and meet new friends. I've haven't even been a member a year and I see people all the time that I've met at different events.

And it's not just parent events, there are lots of kid events planned monthly too. We've gone to Pirates Cove, Pump it up, The little village (I think was the name in Ah by the train station), a pumpkin patch, and quite a few other places. We hold a weekly open gym in the winter which is open to non-members to meet other parents and let the kids blow off some steam. (see info here: http://www.parentswhocare.org/opengym.html)

It's quite an affordable organization ($25 for the year)and it provides a wealth of activities for kids and parents alike. The membership fees are more than made up for in discounts on activities throughout the year.

My name is B. and while I wouldn't see you at open gym because of my older daughters class schedule, we are always at kids club and a lot of the outings.

I belong to the Elk Grove Mom's Meetup group. We are "based" in Elk Grove, but many mom's live all over the area and we do A LOT of activities in Des Plaines/Arlington Hts area. It's a lot of fun and we have Mom's night out. Everyone is really nice and we get together and chat while the kids play. The website is: http://moms.meetup.com/1530/

If that doesn't work try www.meetup.com and seach under parenting then they give a list of meetups.

I am in the same boat-not many friends. But I have been hanging out a little with the Palatine moms through meetup.com.

If you want to get together, let me know. My son is 3.

There is a group of new mom's that meet on Tuesday mornings at the Presbyterian Church in downtown Arlington heights. Mainly for infants but I think any age kids can go.

Also, you might try the Newcomers group in AH or they usualy have them in most towns. They have playgroups, Girl's night out, book club, etc. Here's their website:

Good Luck! I have been there! Also, if you need a break, you can put the baby (some start at 6 months) in a Parent's Day out program. They have one at the Pres Church I referred to above, here's their website:
