Seeking Moms' Group in Columbia Area

I am a working mom who enjoys coming home to her daughter and husband very much... but one night a week with the girls would be nice! I have lived in Columbia for 3 years now but have no girlfriends... don't feel sorry for me-it is my own fault. I work, pick my daughter from daycare and then relax and play with my family... really I have no complaints! I would like to find a small circle of women who would like to play Bunco (if you can teach me:), cook, drink wine, simply socialize! Share the hostess responsibilities on a rotating basis? Is there anyone out there who does such a thing???

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
Have you looked on Meetup.com? There are several playgroups/Moms groups in the area that are listed on there. I know there is a playgroup/Moms group in Ellicott City that is listed on there. Most of the groups have weekday and weekend activities to cover all Moms.

Hi S.! I'm a member of a group called MOPS(Mothers of Preschoolers). It's for all women with kids from pregnancy through preschool. This is my first year attending the meetings and I absolutely love it! We meet once a month and at the meetings we have plenty of time to socialize, eat great foods and desserts, hear a speaker talking about a certain topic with time to discuss it, and then a craft at the end. We would love it if you (and any other mother's) could join us! If you would like some more info (such as dates, time and place) you can e-mail me!

HI S.,
I'd like to find a nice, small group of friends in the area too. I live in Clarksville, work full-time in DC, and have 2 very active children so that leaves very little time for socializing but it would be great to have a girls' night every now and then.
Please let me know if/when you want to plan something. Thanks!
Happy New Year!
S.

S.--I know just what you are talking about. I would love to meet more moms in the area who work full time. It seems that all the groups are for SAHMs. My neighbors have been getting together lately for happy hours and food. It's just enough time to get together but still have the kids in bed on time. But I know I'm missing out on other stuff because I don't stay at home. Let me know what you find if you can, or maybe we'll just start something!

I'm in the same predicament. My son is 9 month's old and I live in the Arbutus area. I've only been living on the east coast for a couple of years, and the few friends I do have out here don't have kids. Would love to meet some other moms! I also work and commute to DC, so weekends are my only option. I am thinking of doing a mommy and me swim class at a YMCA to meet some moms, even though I used to teach those classes so I don't need the instruction for my son! :) Let me know what you find out!
