I have twin boys who were born at 34w. They were in the NICU for 2 weeks. A week after coming home they were diagnosed with severe acid reflux. They were on 8 different meds at the same time and they were just weeks old. Teething is soo much easier than acid reflux!

Hi S.!

My daughter was born at 29 weeks and weighed 3 lbs. She spent 56 days in the NICU and then 10 weeks on an apnea monitor at home. She's 11 months old now and still has reflux problems - which she's on medication for and has slow weight gain and developmental delays.

Believe me I know how hard it is. My husband and I are so thankful that she's doing as well as she is, considering her difficult start in life. Having a preemie is an eye opening experience to see how truly precious and fragile life really is. Hang in there. :) If you need advice feel free to ask.

I am a mother of a 11 month old premie. She was born at 31 weeks due to preclampsia and the hellp syndrome. She was in NICU for a month and a half. When my husband and I brought her home she was on a heart monitor. She weighed 2lbs 10oz when born and now weighs approx. 20lbs. She is a healthy beautiful baby girl that I wouldn't change for anything. She is my life and what keeps me going. If you have any questions just ask me! K.

Hi, I have been there twice and would be happy to chat with you. My son, born at 31 weeks is now five, and spent nine weeks in the NICU. We went through a lot with him. My daughter, born at 36 weeks is now 16 months, but never had to go to the NICU. My biggest advice: don't do the RSV shots. We did them and Caleb still got it twice. We think that they may have contributed to other problems later too.

Hi S.,
My son was 36 weeks when he was born (preterm), so he had some more time in the belly to grow than your daughter. We have not been through NICU and all that you and your daughter have been through--though we had our health issues. My point in responding to you is to provide support: Please know that your daughter will be the strong, vibrant girl who will be healthy and "normal" in due time. Though she's small now, she'll "catch up," as they say. Her lungs will be fully developed and her brain will be just as smart as everyone else's. Stay strong and remember you're not alone.

Dear S.,

My daughter was born at 27 weeks and weighed 1#14oz. She was in the NICU for 2 1/2 months. She is now almost 5 1/2 and has more independence and determination than any adult. I think they fight to live when they come out and there's just no stopping them. She is somewhat small at 38 pounds and 43 inches but no lasting evidence of her early days. I would be surprised if your daughter didn't grow up with that same 'will' to live. Just want to warn you....that 'will' will just about drive you overboard sometimes...so just be ready. My advice is to keep her away from as many people/kids as possible for the first few months. Any sickness is triple for the preemies. It's very scary.
Good luck! She will be fine!

My daughter was born at 35 weeks. She didn't have to go into the NICU thank god. We did stay one extra night at the hospital but other than that we were okay. Today she is two and half, she is small for her age the doctor has ran every test and she is fine everytime so I put a stop to all test last year. She weights about 20 pounds but she is smart as a whisle.
That's all.
Hope this helps and congrats,
L.

My son was almost born at 27 weeks, but we were able to hold off until 36 weeks. However, he had only developed in-utero to about 31 weeks due to Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR). He was in the NICU for 20 days. He had a collapsed lung and a some issues with his aortic valve. He's 11 months old today and healthy and happy as can be. If you have any questions, or need any advice or support, just message me.

My daughter was born at 33 weeks (I developed HELLP). She is a healthy 5 yr old. Stayed in the NICU for about 4 weeks. Her only problem was learning to eat AND breathe. She did come home on a heart monitor for a month.

My daughter was not technically a preemie, they called her preterm. She was born 28 days early. Her actual due date was yesterday, and she is now 4 weeks old. She spent 9 days in the NICU, and they reluctantly sent her home with me when they did because she had lost too much weight, and was not gaining it back as quickly as they would have liked. I, however, have three other children, and I think they trusted that I was comfortable enough to know what to look for in case of trouble. All three of my other children were early as well, and as a matter of fact, my third was actually earlier than this one, but this one really threw me for a loop. It was the hardest 9 days of my life, but she is much better now. She is catching up on her weight, and she seems a lot more alert now adays. Feel free to email me anytime.
