Does anyone have any advice? My 10 yr old son was diagnosed with Crohn's disease one month ago. I would like us to try natural treatments to treat this illness. This has hit us hard. He is so tired, underweight and fed up with the meds he is taking.

What can I do next?

Sorry for your son's troubles. I have IBS and was diagnosed with diverticulosis at 31 (an old lady disease). I know that they are not the same conditions, but I really like my GI doctor out of Rush Copley. HIs name is Dr. Zaidi. He is very open-minded, caring, and thoughtful. For instance, rather than try to stick me on a bunch of pills, he has me taking fiber supplements as well as a B-complex vitamin. Also, I swear chiropractic work has helped me immensely...I don';t know if it is all in my head, but I don't care if it is I feel better. I hope you get the answers you seek for you son. Hope this helps.

I can't imagine how hard that must be for your son and your family. About 5 yrs ago, I worked at a chiropractic office that specifically helped a 8 yr old boy with Crohn's. He had great results from getting adjusted. It was so cool to watch him progress and if my memory serves me correctly, I believe he was able to get off of his meds. I am not sure where in Aurora you live but if you are looking for a natural treatment, you could try chiropractic care. I have worked for a chiropractor in Aurora for 2 yrs and our office sees a lot of kids with digestive issues. You could always come in for a consultation to talk with Dr. Olson to find out more info and see if he could help. He is fantastic with kids. The office is Olson Chiropractic off of Orchard and Galena Blvd.-phone # ###-###-####. If you aren't sure about trying chiropractic, you can send me a message and I can ask Dr. Olson of other alternative options he may know of. Good Luck!L.

I see a natural, kineseologist(?) that is in Warrenville.
Reflections of Life Dr. Joseph Harboski. He is a chiropractor that has studied farther to treat the problems not the symptoms. He has a web site also. He's awesome!!

My daughter was diagnosed when she was 8, she is now 17 and we tried going natural but it did not help. I sometimes wonder if it made things worse. In the beginning she did start with medication then she tried going to a chiropractor because a friend said he helped her with her stomach problems. It was something she wanted to try. In the end it did not help, she kept losing wieght and the pains were not relieved. It was horrible, she started to look anorexic and decided that was enough. That was about a year and a half ago. She just recently had surgery this year. I feel that if we would have stayed with meds this may have been avoided. Keeping the crohns under control, I feel, is the best way to deal with it. If you would like more info send another request.
