A cyst is just a sac of fluid. Didn't they give you some information about it? Perhaps see if you can get a referral to a perinatologist for another assessment of the situation. They are better trained to look at issues with the baby.

I was given the same information with my son, exact same point. I was terrified for the four weeks I had to wait til the next sonogram. Next sonogram, cyst was gone. When I talked about it with the doctor I saw immediately after that particular visit, she brushed me off and said, "oh, those are really common," and then looked at me as if I had two heads. She was truly surprised to hear how worried I had been. I would ask for more information, but don't overreact. By the time I got through the first 36 weeks I was convinced I was giving birth to an alien after all the dire warnings I was getting. It makes me sad as it robbed me of a lot of the joy I should have had during the pregnancy. My son was born strong and healthy (he did end up being breech - yet another worry - but the scheduled c-section was surprisingly calm). Write back and let us know what happens.
God bless,
L.

You need more information - if your doctor cannot answer your questions, you need a referral.

And don't let responders like Momofmany guilt you about whatever decision you eventually face. Once you have all the information, then you can make whatever decision is right for your family. Not for us here on Mamapedia.

Sweetie, I know you must be terribly worried by this news, but this is not a question for a moms' online support group. It is your own OB who you must speak with and who can refer you to the correct perinatal specialist to handle your unborn baby's health issue. We are not medical professionals and cannot answer serious medical questions. This is an issue for the person with the medical degree. Please call your OB right away. He or she should contact you as soon as they are aware of the u/s results, but that doesn't mean that you need to wait for him/her to call you. Please call their office right away.

Hard to answer this question without more information.

A cyst is a build of fluid. WHERE is the cyst located? Do they want to aspirate it or what? Did she recommend you see a neonatologist who specializes in neuro problems?

Call the Drs office. Ask questions. Seek a 2nd opinion. If you need a referral to a specialist get one.

I would go ahead a call the doctor's office a little later this morning. Just call and say, "Hey, the doctor said something about a cyst on my sons brain. That doesn't sound good. Could someone explaing this to me?"

So many times we hear something like that and it doesn't register right away. We leave the doctor's office, drive away and then say, "Wait a minute? What just happened?"

I try to really take things in while I'm still with the doctor and try to make sure I don't let the doctor leave the room if there is still soemthing I'm confused about. I've had to practice say, "And what does that mean? What do I need to do?"

Try not to worry. Just ask more questions. It can be so frustrating sometimes, because there are doctors who forget that they've gone to med school and know what all these things mean and we haven't! They need to spend a little more time explaining things to us.

Don't worry and try to be calm about it because 'they' are not always right. Even if they were right find out more about it and prepare yourself for it but I would not let it bother me and see a perinatal doctor. I was told different things with some of mine and not that major but none were correct. I hate how they worry people now with issues we never had to worry with some time back when I had my kids. Enjoy the pregnancy, get another doctor that is a perinatal to check it.

I had a similar situation when I was pregnant with my son. In his case they were called choroid plexus cysts. You can look it up on the internet. They are temporary cysts that eventually burst. Nothing to worry about. As your doctor about them. Don't know if its the same as what your doctor is seeing.

Pray and go to church and ask for prayers from you pastor or prayer team, then trust. Its very h*** o* you I'm sure but God can heal the baby. I will keep you in my prayers too. May God give you courage, strength, and peace about your pregnancy. May He give his healing touch to your baby and give you patience and even joy during this time knowing that he has the whole world in his hands, even the itty bitty baby, in His hands. May He continually bless you and your family.

Call the doctor and ask him this question. There is no way that we would know what you should do about the cyst. You need to have more information so that you can handle what ever this means. Not knowing is more difficult than knowing and it being serious.

Is there anything they can do about it? It's their job to figure out what to do to fix the problem. If they can't go to another doctor. The more you know, the better you'll be off. If you got questions, ask. I hope things work out!
