use some stool softner for baby comfort. Go find a Doctor that will help you. It may take more than one Doctor more than one visit!!! But that's bull, they didn't try.

You may also keep his rectum lubricated with vaseline, til ya get the right Doctor to treat his poor bottom!!

My little girl was doing the same thing, and it really concerned me as well...I started putting 1/2-1 oz of prune juice with every feeding until she regulated, then I weaned her down to just one time a day of the prune juice.

I doubt your son has a hemroid at such an early age. Bleeding is common if he is constipated. Give him prune juice or white grape juice so he will not strain as hard.

If you've ever seen a hemorrhoid, then you know the difference between it and a flap of skin. It looks like a vein that slipped out through the anus. So I imagine that the doctor and ER docs are telling you the truth. Skin flaps can get in the way of straining and cause bleeding. But, for your peace of mind, I suggest you do a google image search of both anal skin flaps and hemorrhoids. If you find a picture of a hemorrhoid that looks like your son's, take it to the doctor with you and show them and ask them to explain why the picture is a hemorrhoid and your son's is not.

Hi V.,
My son would sometimes have blood if he pushed to hard, which he still does sometimes and he is now 3. Google or ask you dr. about an anal fissure. It isn't a hemeroid, but a small tear inside the anus that can bleed. It will heal on it's own. Be sure the blood you are seeing is bright red and streakish, if you see dark colored blood call the doc and try to take a stool sample for testing. Best of luck and God bless you and yours.

I also agree that this is not something to go to the ER about, especially not 3 times. If your pediatrician says that it is not a hemorrhoid then it's not! Bleeding and the skin flap are most likely caused by hard stool and straining. The straining and hard stool cause small cuts called fissures. Try adding some prune juice to his formula or just feed him a small amount, 2 oz, of prune juice to help soften his stool. You can also put a little vaseline on a cu-tip and rub a little around his anus to help ease the discomfort.

If your pediatrician didn't explain this to you then I would consider getting a different pediatrician. Your pediatrician should also be able to give you additional advice on how to relieve this problem.

Find a new doctor. You are in charge of your son's health care. Find someone that you are comfortable with and ask questions. I'm not familiar with the condition, but the #1 thing is to have a medical professional that you trust and one that will take the time to address your concerns. Good luck.

Hi V. I think the issue here is that you simply have a doctor that U are not confortable with enough to trust so no matter what he/she tells you your gonna be in doubt. Try finding a dr that you trust and you will be at ease, your a new mom and beleive me there are gonna be ALOT of weird things going on with your baby and most are gonna seem alot worse than they really are but get a dr you trust and you'll be ok. It's ok to worry. If you live near the Med Center in Houston there's this Dr. named Galena Yoffe off of Main St. She is GREAT! and my kids love her.

He may be allergic to something you (if you are breastfeeding) or he is eating that is constipating. Take a note of what you/he ate in a 24hr period. Start by eliminating these from your diet for a week, and then reintroduce after 1 wk. The most common allergens are dairy, wheat, corn, soy. I believe getting to the root of his problem is key. I read this book INFANT MASSAGE by McClure, this might help lessen his straining. (Please avoid stool softeners, they are like putting a band-aid on a gash) Other thoughts to look into: Have you looked into Chlorine-free diapers? I like Avalon baby products...they are organic with no synthetics. I hope this helps. I am studying to be a Naturopath, if you have any other questions I will be happy to help. I wouldn't go to the ER for it, but I would at least see another doctor, preferably a specialist.
