Hello. I am fairly new to the North Wilmington area and have a beautiful 6 week old daughter. Unfortunately my husband and I do not have any family in the area and most of my stay-at-home friends live over an hour away. I am looking for any moms who may meet a few times a week to walk, shop, etc who may have children around the same age as my daughter. I know she is young and there is not much to do with her yet (Gymboree, library, music class, etc) but I like to have a very active and social lifestyle and I know I will eventually go stir crazy being in the house and not having adult conversation. Just being able to spend time with others will be nice during the day. Looking forward to any responses.

What can I do next?

One group I belong to is the IWC--International Women's Group of Delaware. They meet Wed & Thur at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church in Greenville. They offer childcare for $10 and free language classes. They often have speakers, presentations, luncheons, etc. They have a moms group within the group. The nice thing is that there is a big room with all the activity sheets out to sign up for and coffee/tea/cookies and you can casually sit and chat with other women of ALL ages while your child is cared for by Miss Theresa nearby. It gives you a break and who knows who you will meet. You can go this Wed/Thur at 9am. I'll be there Thursday--Wednesday usually has more people. Welcome!

I was in the same situation and found a great group called Tallyville MOMS (moms offering moms support) Club to be a great resource. We meet every 3rd Monday of the month at Silverside Church in Silverside road for guest speakers and forums. There are MANY playgroups for all ages that they help to put you into. I have found some really great friendships through here.
There are many activities each month and once a month a Moms Night Out.
Most of the activities are geared for kids 3-5 years though, but there are some for all ages that would be fun to bring you little one along to if you just want to get out.
I can give you all the contact info if you are interested.
Hope this helps!
M.

I am also a stay at home mom, a bit younger and kids a bit older, but love interaction with other adults. We are also new to the N. Wilmington area. I meet a few other moms at the Talley Day Park every morning. They walk at 9:30 am, I meet up with them around 10:30 for the park. (My kids dont wake up early enough for the walk.) I have a 6 month old son and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. Feel free to email me and maybe we could set somthing up. ____@____.com

Hi P.
I am also a 31 year old stay home Mom. I have two boys 5 and 2. They are not the same age as your daughter, but I am like you, I like that adult interaction. Where in North Wilmington are you? We are in Claymont. We could always meet at the park or something. Email me back or give me a call. ###-###-####.

Did anyone tell you about MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) It meets at Brandywine Valley Baptist church near the YMCA just off 202. It is minimal charge and your first time is free. There is a speaker each month, a craft, yummies and coffee with no kids pulling on your clothes!! I absolutely loved it. We also formed playgroups in our neighborhoods and planned mom's night out. I would have been lost without them. We have no family in Delaware and no friends with kids when I stopped working!!
They meet monthly, but I don't remember which Thursday. You should call the church office.
Don't feel you have to be 'religious' to attend. ALL MOMS ARE WELCOME! Childcare and snack for moms is provided.
I went for 6 years between my two kids.
