Hello,
My son is 3 years old and we are starting to look for preschools. I have some friends with children in some preschools in Long Beach. They are all very happy and love their schools. There are just SO many preschools out there!
I want a preschool that offers half day and 2 days a week.
I don't mind if it is through a church, however, I don't the primary focus to be on religon. It is MOST important that the teachers are VERY caring and loving and understanding of all personality types. I want a school where the children are not forced to do things, for example...work in groups/pairs. I want it to be okay that he observes until he is ready to participate. I just want the teachers to be okay with him being quiet, but content and not bugging him to do things. He has to warm up on his own time and pressure just makes him fall apart. He needs his personal space and I want that to be respected.
I am excited to see him grow and mature in preschool...now we just need to find the right one!
So, if any of you know of a school with very caring teachers, who truly love teaching and love children....please let me know:) Of course, I would like the school to be in Long Beach, but Los Alamitos or other nearby places would be an option as well.
Thank you!!

Rossmoor Preschoolin Los Alamitos or Child Development Center in the Los Alamitos School Distrct. My daughter went to both preschools and had a lot of success from them.

There is a wonderful school in Lakewood (borders Long Beach close to LBCC) it is called Lakewood Village Community Church School. We are not religious per se-they teach some core values but the focus is the kids. I have been very pleased with it!
My son is turning 4 soon and loves it he started last Feb-check it out!
Good luck!

Palo Verde Avenue Christian Church Nursery School
2501 Palo Verde Avenue
Long Beach, CA 90815

This school is just south of Willow on Palo Verde. It is dubbed "The Teddy Bear School" because of the big bear holding a heart out front. My daughter went there when she was 3 on Tue & Thurs mornings and when she was 4 on MWF mornings. I can't say enough how great my experience was with this school. The best thing about it is the loving teachers. Since they are not there all day like in most daycare-type preschools, they are not exhausted from day after day of extended hours. They don't force curriculum on the kids, they get down on the floor and play and read, make crafts, and have fun! Go for a visit, I know you will love it!

From another M. M =)

We started my 4 year old son to Great Beginnings this year & we love it! It's a very creative place, lots of focus on animals & growing things. The director/owner has been there over 20 years & is very gentle & caring as are all the teachers there. I'm pretty sure you can do only 2 days a week & I know you do not have to stay for nap so half-day is definitely an option, if you can get a spot there.

Check out Christ Lutheran Preschool. It's in Long Beach off of Stearns between Palo Verde and Studebaker. It is a wonderful preschool that meets all of the criteria you mentioned. I can go on and on and on about how wonderful the school and teachers are and their fabulous philosophies, but I really think you should just check them out. Based on what you wrote, I can't think of a more perfect fit. Their half day program is 9-12:30 and they are very flexible and accomodating. Call them at ###-###-####.

Hi M.,

I'm probably biased but I love the preschool we sent our children to as they still attend the school (preschool - 8th grade). It is Lakewood Christian School run through Lakewood 1st Baptist Church. They offer the flexibility on days and times that you are looking for and have one of the most caring staff I have ever seen. Many friends of ours have taken their children through the preschool and then onto public school. They continue to recommend the preschool as one of the best things they did for their children.

The phone number is: ###-###-####

We chose this school because of their emphasis on balance and true caring of the children and the child's needs above a scholatic agenda. We felt at this young age they needed the strong social aspect and love and care of the individual child. The scholastic learning was an added benefit and boy did they learn. In that great environment learning is easy. Good luck.
