Hi everyone. I am considering Karate or Tae Kwon Do for my daughter who is 6 years old. Has anyone had luck with any of the programs in Dallas? We live at in the Bluffview/Northern Dallas area. I am curious if anyone has had luck with their girls enjoying it and sticking with it, and if any of the programs are particularly good for girls. I have heard it is beneficial for teaching self control and self discipline.

I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks, K.

I recommend that you check out Chamberlain Studios of Self-Defense www.dallaskenpo.com/. My son has been learning Kenpo style karate there since he was 4. He is now 6 1/2 and has always had a number of girls in his classes who participate and respond to Sensei on par with the boys in the class. Sensei Rollend is simply amazing with these young children. He will sometimes have 15 in his class, and usually at least 5 or 6 are girls. He has a way of keeping them all occupied and on task learning the different kata, answering questions about their character lesson for the month and enjoying the whole experience.

Well i think that its a great idea, my daughter is in " chang lee tae kwon do" in mesquite. She loves it. She has been doing it for almost a year and has had so much fun with it. Its only 80.00 a month. Not including the belt test. I like the fact that she is learning to protecting her self. And i think it also helps her even more in school. My son will be going when he turns 4 yrs. Have fun.

I would also recommend Master Jason Lee at Texas Tae Kwon Do at Campbell and 75 (far North dallas / Richardson. My boys have been going there a couple of years - my 7 year old started at age 5 1/2 and my almost 5 year old could not wait for the day he turned 4 so he could start. There are a number of girls in the school, including an 11 year old who is a 2nd Dan black belt and the 6 year old across the street who started this fall. Fr ages 6 and under he offers a class at 3:30 - 4:00. He focuses a lot on character development, in addition to Tae Kwon Do skills. My boys have learned so much more than just Tae Kwon Do.

I recommend Texas Taekwondo Center www.txtkd.com. Master Jason is great with the little ones as well as the big ones.

I have a 5.75 year old that has been going since the age of 4 and has really benefitted from it.
