Seeking Information About Braces and Dentists in HEB Area

It looks like my seven-year old will be needing braces - I am wondering how early orthodontists start putting them on children, and if there are any good ones in the area someone can recommend. I had a hard time with my teeth and had to wear braces for a number of years when I was younger; I am really hoping for a more positive experience (as positive as braces can be) for my daughter. I would appreciate your insights!

yes mine got hers on at 7. In Bedford, when I was younger I went to Dr. Stephen Kralicke ###-###-#### you will love him. My mom picked him and she use to be a dental hygenist. If that says anything. I just looked him up on google and there were two great reviews for him. His is very good with kids, funny and honest!! Highly recommend him!! Good Luck

I am a dental hygienist and it is definitely not too early to have braces put on. As far as how long the braces are on just depends. You definitely don't want to move teeth too fast. So if she has to wear them for years it is better than the effects of moving them too fast. Weh refer to Dr. Terry Moore

I HIGHLY recommend you to see Dr. Carter Hatton. I went to him as a youth, and plan on taking my children to him. he is a dentist and orthodontist, so you won't have to make multiple visits to different Dr.s.

To get braces this young is such a horrible thing. Your son will end up with braces and retainers for years, and once they come off, his teeth will just revert becuase his young mouth is still growing. I have had many medical professionals explain that Dr.'s who practice this do it b/c it makes them more money b/c the child is in braces for sooo long.

I had very severe teeth problems. I started a retainer around 9 to get my mouth ready, but got my braces on around 12 and I only wore them for a year and a half. I have many friends who got braces around 8 and 9 and still wore theirs for around 5 years, with years of retainers after that. It's unnessecary pain and money to be worn that long. My teeth are still perfect now.

I just took my twelve year old in for a consultation. The dr said they like to put them on 7/8 yr olds or 12/13 yr olds. It all depends upon which teeth have been lost, what's coming in, etc. We are waiting for 4 molars to come out before we proceed.
I agree some orthos push to put them on younger kids. A longer course of treatment (or a whole new round) means big $$$ for them. I would definitely get more than one opinion!
