Seeking Info on Weight Loss

I keep hearing differnt things about over the counter products on the economy. I am a little concerned because I don't think the German laws are as heavily regulated for ingrediants as the FDA in the US. I don't want to get something that works and come up hot on urinalysis. If there are any German ladies out there that can give advice and and some education on this, that would be great. I cannot do a lot of working out, I had back surgery and running is extremely hard. Very busy schedule at work, and hard to get to they GYM.

What can I do next?

Hey T.-I am taking Alli right now which you can find at the BX or PX. It is the first FDA apporved over the counter weight loss pill and I consulted with my dr. before taking it and he said it was ok to take. You're supposed to eat only 15 grams of fat per meal otherwise you will have some side effects like diarrhea. It has been pretty good so far. I have noticed a difference in my clothes-not so much the poundage yet.
Good luck-that is a tough situation! H.

Hi-it's the same here in the UK. It seems that someone told me there is a list of things that shouldn't be bought over the counter here. Not sure if it was from the hospital or something I heard in our inbrief. Maybe ask at your hospital if they have any guidlines for OTC meds there. when we were in Egypt all you had to do was walk in a drugstore and they would give you pretty much anything you wanted!! Kind of crazy. Hope you find a better answer, but hope this helps.

T.,

don't have any info on over the counter products. but I found a wonderful way to working out. Check out www.momentumfs.com I have been exercising since Jan with his intervall system. And I especially like his way of looking at exercise: who has hours to spend on exercise but everybody can do 30 min and if really bad to less but do something 5-6 days a week. His system goes in hand with www.flylady.net (free help on organizing your home and other areas of your life). On the momentum web site go to Learn more and check out the free workouts etc and if you are interested in getting the heart rate monitor after using the free workouts you can take advantage of the flybaby offer.

Good luck with it!

P.S. I don't run, I bike for my exercise but you can do anything that you enjoy to get your heart rate up.

I do know that supplements only offer short term help no matter what you get. I can tell you what worked for me after I had my daughter and I have alot of back problems. If you drink coffee switch to green tea that is 10 pounds in a month. Soy milk instead of milk and when I eat I eat half veggies and the meat and side dish the other half. I also walk everywhere I can and take a vitamin that speeds up my metabolism. There are more things but those seem to be what changed my weight. I went from a size 14 to 10 in 4 months without a gym everyday or even working out. Almost forgot no soda and water at least 4 times a day.Good luck S. A.

Hi there,
I am a SAHM of 2 kids. I was about 35 pounds overweight and very unhappy till I found Eat 2 Live. It is a mostly Vegetarian/Vegan diet but he also has one that is not as aggressive that allow some chicken and eggs. You eat allot of veggies and soy products. In 6 weeks I dropped 30 pounds and went from a size 11-12 to a size 5-7. I was not really exercising besides taking my kids outside and to the parks and zoos. It was amazing how much lighter I felt when I got off of the meat and dairy. Also it is better to if you can stop drinking caffeine. I know that that is a hard one but maybe try to cut down at first and then faze it out.The books is Eat to Live by Dr Joel Fuhrman. There is also a get Yahoo group that I belong to and they are very supporting and can answer allot of your questions.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Eat-2-Live/
Good luck to you and I really hope that you find what is right for you.
I would not take supplements though as I found that a change is lifestyle and eating is allot better and will help you keep the weight off for good!

I live in Englad so cannot give advice on German diet product. I also lead a really hectic life and have back problems. I find using an exercise ball at home (stretching) helps and so does yoga (you can get lots of videos). I would also recommend swimming if you can fit it into your schedule.
Good luck!

Supplements are never a really good idea, especially if you want to keep the weight off. Try Weight Watchers on-line. My Husband lost 40 lbs without working out and I lost 30 lbs without working out.

I know you already have a lot of long answers, but it's hard to keep it short. I have a few back problems, but mostly I have trouble doing aerobic workouts cause my feet are really bad. I finally had reconstructive surgery after 10 years of agony. I've always been one for keeping it simple. It's about metabolism and calories in and out. There are ways to increase your basic metabolism (i.e. how much you're burning when you're doing nothing) drink water, eat more protein and fiber etc., but the major one is build muscle. "They" say that women can lose upto 1% of muscle mass per year after the age of 30. I do a body for life workout, lifting weights for 1 1/2 hours twice a week. I try to eat healthy, but I also want to live. I have a 2 yr old and a 7 mth old and I have lost all the weight from the last one plus some. I am the same weight as in college. If you don't know how to lift correctly get a trainer for a couple of sessions it is important to do it right otherwise you are just wasting your time. My aerobic workouts that I have been able to do have been interval training on the bike for 20 mins (this is included in the 1 1/2 hours.
If you want any information on interval training and why it's better for speeding up your metabolism or on a lifting regime that would work for you please let me know. I've been lifting for almost 20 years and I would definitely not consider myself bulky. Hope this helps.

Hi, for the past several months I have been on Weight Watchers online. I really found that it is easy to use and you can eat what you want, as long as you stay in your points range. You get extra points when you workout, any kind of workout, which means you can eat a little more. I log in my food intake everyday. If I don't know how many points a certain food is, I look it up on the calorie tracker when I log into Weight Watchers. I've liked being able to eat all the foods I love, in moderation of course:)
