Seeking Info on Clomid

My brother and sister-in-law are trying to get pregnant and after months of trying, they found out that they have fertility issues. My sister-in-law started taking Clomid and it has made her periods extremely painful. She is due to get her period for the second time since she's been on it this weekend and she is FEARING it. So mine is a two-part question: First of all, if anyone has experienced this pain with their periods while on Clomid, what did you do to help alleviate it? And second, is there another medication that she can take that may not cause her so much pain each month?

What can I do next?

Hello, I took Clomid for 3 months and never conceived. I never experieced any side effects from this drug either. It took me about 2 years to conceive my first child, and I had a healthy baby boy in 2005 without any help. Since then I have been pregnant twice, and I am expecting in Oct. of this year. I don't think there is another oral drug on the market to help conceive. I would talk to the doc about the pain, and maybe see a specialist. My husband and I went through tons of testing, ultrasounds, ect and finally through carefully tracking my periods, became pregnant. There is hope, because it happened to us. I wish them the best of Luck.

I have taken Clomid a handful of months in the past. Thanks to Clomid I have been pregnant twice. The downside of Clomid is the awful side affects. I have not had the issues that you mentioned, but have had plenty of others. The key is to make sure she is being properly monitored by a qualified physician, as this medicine has its challenges, both short & potential long term. My physician has been very reluctant to allow me to take Clomid more than 3 months at any one time. I don't know of any other oral options that compare to Clomid.

I used it for my first child (I was lucky and didn't need it for the second). I never had any pain. I think she needs to go back to her doctor and push them on this. THe first doctor I used was not a fertility expert, so did not do as much monitoring as the one I switched to mid-way. I switched due to location not because I didn't like the first one.

My second doctor was much more knowledgable and new the ins and outs of the drug. They even did ultrasounds to make sure the clomid was creating ovulation - sometimes if it is not the right dosage, it can make all the folicles get big instead of just one that will then release.

I recommend, she go to her doctor and also switch to a fertitlity specialist that can create a plan for how long to use clomid and when and what to switch to if that doesn't work.

I got pregnant off of one round of clomid, after 1 year of trying and being on a hormone pill ahead of the clomid, I don't remember having any pain. She should really voice her concerns to the Doctor, this doesn't seem normal at all. On the website for information on clomid is states to contact your doctor (ovarian enlargement presenting as abdominal or pelvic pain, tenderness, pressure, or swelling;), I would think that would warrant a call.

I took clomid for 5 cycles, I never had any problems with it. She should mention that to her DR. The clomid did cause a cyst one month (although I had no pain from it) maybe that could be a problem for her.
I was monitored very closely on clomid...due to the fact that I was doing Intrauterine insemination.

Good Luck to her...I hope she gets pregnant very soon!

My neighbor got pregnant on Clomid twice. She never complained of terrible cramps. The first time she was trying it only took her a month. She now has a 5 year old boy because of the help from Clomid. She is on her second pregnancy due to Clomid, I figure if the cramps were bad the first time she wouldn't have tried it again.

First of all, if she is not seeing an actual fertility specialist or a reproductive endocrinologist then she should try to pursue that route. I went to Dr. Mary Wood-Molo at Rush (312-997-BABY/312-###-###-####) and highly recommend her.

I took about 5-6 rounds of Clomid and never had any adverse effects, whether the dosage was 50 or 150. Since Clomid alone never worked for me, I also started injectables (Follistim and hCG) and never had a problem either.

Hopefully her doctor is seeing her 3 times a week once she begins taking the Clomid so that she is receiving a transvaginal ultrasound (to monitor the growth of follicles) and blood tests (to monitor levels of hormones and to see if they are surging appropriately).

If your sister-in-law is in so much pain, she should contact her doctor ASAP. It is not normal to have such extreme pain on this drug.

If she would like to talk to someone about infertility (I run a support group through Resolve) please have her contact me at ____@____.com. I wish her much luck.
